Pinstriped Performances: Clean Sweep

While the Yankees front office continued to wheel and deal on Thursday, wrapping up the Joey Gallo trade and also making a move for Anthony Rizzo, the MiLB teams on the field kept winning. All four full-season affiliates, plus both DSL teams, added to the win column.

Brody Koerner (Robert M Pimpsner/Pinstriped Prospects)

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (47-24): Scranton rallied for three runs in the top of the ninth to shock Syracuse 3-1.

  • Star of the Game: Thomas Milone – 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Milone’s go-ahead blast in the ninth was easily the biggest play of the day for the RailRiders
  • Matt Pita: 1-for-3, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Pita led off the ninth with a solo shot to tie the game and pave the way for Milone’s heroics
  • Brody Koerner: 6.1 IP, 8 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 85 pitches (60 strikes). Koerner did scatter a few too many hits, but he avoided the big one and pitched into the seventh inning for the first time this season
  • Nick Green: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 9 pitches (6 strikes)
  • Stephen Ridings: 2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 27 pitches (19 strikes)

  • Star of the Game: Dermis Garcia – 2-for-5, 1 home run (18), 1 double, 5 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Garcia’s grand slam in the seventh put Somerset ahead and added to his system-leading home run total
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-4, 1 home run (14), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Cabrera hit a two-run home run with two outs in the sixth that brought the previously lifeless Patriots back into the game

  • Star of the Game: Randy Vasquez – 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 95 pitches (63 strikes). Vasquez, who was rumored to be a part of the Gallo deal for a time, put together a strong effort after struggling in his first High-A start

Tampa Tarpons (49-23): Yet another doubleheader was attempted and failed thanks to the relentless rain in Florida. The Tarpons completed the first game, defeating Palm Beach 8-3, while the second game was postponed once again to tomorrow.

  • Star of the Game: Ryder Green – 1-for-2, 1 home run (2), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Green’s two-run shot came as part of a four-run first inning for the Tarpons
