Pinstriped Performances: Familia Affair

The Tarpons, and one of their prized rookies, are on the rise with about a month to play in the regular season. Buffalo and Scranton will have to wait until next month to decide this week’s series.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (54-50): With the RailRiders looking to secure a series victory, the rain got in the way and suspended their matchup with the Bisons in the sixth inning with the score tied at one. The game will be resumed on September 26.

Somerset Patriots (62-39): The Patriots battled back from a 6-2 deficit to steal an 8-6 win over Binghamton to end the week on a high note after losing the first four games of the series.

  • Star of the Game: Brandon Lockridge – 2-for-4, 1 home run (10), 3 RBI, 3 runs scored. Lockridge came up clutch with a three-run home run in the eighth inning, turning a 6-5 deficit into an 8-6 lead
  • Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored. Wells is hitting .266 during his Double-A stint
  • Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 1 home run (13), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Bastidas is 8-for-21 with two doubles and two homers in his last five games
  • Rodolfo Duran: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI
  • Deivi Garcia: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 69 pitches (40 strikes). Garcia’s problems with the long ball resurfaced on Sunday
  • Nick Ernst: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K, 43 pitches (27 strikes)
  • Barrett Loseke: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 18 pitches (11 strikes)
  • Kaleb Cowart: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 9 pitches (6 strikes). Cowart earned the win with a clean eighth
  • Carson Coleman: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 21 pitches (13 strikes). Coleman secured his ninth save and first since July 24

Hudson Valley Renegades (54-47): The ‘Gades rebounded from Saturday’s deflating doubleheader sweep with a series-ending 5-2 win over Jersey Shore.

  • Star of the Game: Eduardo Torrealba – 1-for-3, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 1 walk. Torrealba had the only extra-base hit of the afternoon for the Renegades, driving in two key insurance runs
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-2, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases
  • Tyler Hardman: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 stolen base
  • TJ Rumfield: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Blane Abeyta: 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 69 pitches (43 strikes). Abeyta moved to 5-7 with the win and has put together a run of seven consecutive solid starts
  • Edgar Barclay: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 10 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 16 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Ryan Miller: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 11 pitches (9 strikes). Miller struck out the side in the ninth for his second save

Tampa Tarpons (49-51): Christopher Familia hit a pair of home runs to headline a dominant afternoon for the Tarpons, who defeated the Threshers 9-4 and sit in first place for the second half.

  • Star of the Game: Christopher Familia – 3-for-3, 2 home runs (3), 3 RBI, 4 runs scored, 1 walk. The 22-year-old hadn’t gone deep since his second game at Low-A, back on July 17
  • Antonio Gomez: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout. Gomez ends the week with a 14-game hitting streak
  • Madison Santos: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Ben Rice: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Joel Valdez: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 63 pitches (41 strikes). The return in the Nick Nelson/Donny Sands trade made his debut at the Low-A level following seven appearances with the FCL Yanks
  • Trevor Holloway: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 42 pitches (26 strikes). Holloway got his fourth win
  • Danny Watson: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 39 pitches (23 strikes)
  • Ryan Anderson: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 32 pitches (20 strikes)
  • Harold Cortijo: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 7 pitches (4 strikes)
