Pinstriped Performances: FCL Yanks Keep Rolling

The weather seems about the only thing that can stop the FCL Yankees these days, as half a twin bill on Monday was wiped out but the Baby Bombers won the other half.

FCL Yankees (24-8): The Yanks came back to beat the Phillies 3-2 in eight innings. A nightcap was suspended in the sixth inning with the score tied at one, and will be resumed on August 1.

  • Star of the Game: Leam Mendez – 2 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 4 K. Mendez closed out the game to earn his first win of the year, and the 22-year-old Cuban hasn’t allowed an earned run in his last three appearances
  • Dayro Perez: 2-for-2, 1 run scored, 2 walks
  • Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts. Chaparro is working his way back to action after missing nearly two months
  • Nelson Medina: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Luis Serna: 3 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 2 K

DSL Yankees (16-19): The Yanks were clobbered by visiting Pirates Gold, 10-1.

  • Star of the Game: Gerardo Abrego – 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K. After walking 12 over his previous three appearances, Abrego looked much more like the version of himself that put up a 2.68 ERA in 12 games last season

  • Enmanuel Tejeda: 2-for-3, 2 walks, 1 stolen base
