The top three affiliates managed just two total runs, while Tampa hitters teed off for three homers and took home the only win of the night for the system.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (15-27): Jacksonville pitching shut down Scranton as the Jumbo Shrimp took game one of the series 3-0.

Somerset Patriots (26-13): The Patriots wasted a great outing from Mitch Spence as they dropped a pitcher’s duel in Portland by a 2-1 score.

  • Star of the Game: Mitch Spence – 5.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 85 pitches (53 strikes). Spence set a season high for strikeouts and completed at least five innings for the third straight start
  • Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Michael Beltre: 0-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Jesus Bastidas: 2-for-3

Hudson Valley Renegades (17-22): The Renegades managed just two hits and lost their third game in a row, 3-1 to Rome.

  • Star of the Game: Tanner Myatt – 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 22 pitches (15 strikes). The 23-year-old has allowed two earned runs in 17.1 innings
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-4, 2 strikeouts
  • Trey Sweeney: 0-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Blane Abeyta: 4.2 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 78 pitches (49 strikes)
  • Bryan Blanton: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 40 pitches (19 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (18-21): The Tarpons fell behind 5-2 early, but stormed back to take a 7-5 win in the series opener over visiting Lakeland.

  • Star of the Game: Jasson Dominguez – 2-for-2, 1 home run (5), 1 RBI, 4 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base. Dominguez is officially red-hot – he’s homered in two straight games, is seven for his last 13, and is slugging .623 this month
  • Antonio Gomez – 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Gomez finally hit his first of the season following a very sluggish start
  • Anthony Garcia: 1-for-3, 1 home run (8), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Garcia maintains his comical slash line that sees him hitting .227 but with a .410 OBP
  • Benjamin Cowles – 1-for-3, 3 RBI, 1 strikeout. Cowles’ two-run single gave the Tarpons the lead, and he added another RBI with a bases-loaded HBP in the eighth
  • Tyrone Yulie: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 4 K, 78 pitches (48 strikes). Yulie was victimized by an error in the second inning and was largely strong beyond that
  • Kevin Milam: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 42 pitches (27 strikes). Milam moved to 4-3 on the year with the win
  • Enrique Santana: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 14 pitches (8 strikes)
  • Jack Neely: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 17 pitches (11 strikes). Neely has four saves this year
