Pinstriped Performances: Feeling Patriotic

Five homers plus another outstanding effort from Glenn Otto paced Somerset to a rout. Hudson Valley split a doubleheader, while Scranton lost a close one in Worcester to kick off the July 4th weekend.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (34-15): A home run from Estevan Florial was not enough as the RailRiders lost to the WooSox, 4-3.

  • Star of the Game: Estevan Florial – 2-for-5, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Florial has hit safely in six straight and 12 of 14, raising his batting average to .233 after a very rough start in Triple-A
  • Hoy Jun Park: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 2 walks
  • Kyle Holder: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 walk
  • Trey Amburgey: 0-for-4, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Amburgey’s franchise-record on base streak now sits at 38 games
  • Max McDowell: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk
  • Matt Krook: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 5 K, 72 pitches (36 strikes). Krook hadn’t walked more than three hitters in an outing this season

Somerset Patriots (34-18): Five different Patriots homered, including three in the third inning, and Glenn Otto pitched brilliantly as Somerset walloped the Senators 10-0.

  • Star of the Game: Oswaldo Cabrera – 2-for-5, 1 home run (8), 1 double, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. Cabrera’s home run was the only one that was not of the solo variety, and broke the game open as part of the six-run third inning
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Glenn Otto – 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 12 K, 88 pitches (63 strikes). In a season full of gems, this might have been Otto’s most impressive, as he took a no-hitter deep into the seventh inning before serving up a double and only allowed one other baserunner. He’s struck out at least 10 hitters in four out of nine starts
  • Diego Castillo: 2-for-5, 1 home run (10), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored. Castillo’s home run led off the game
  • Oswald Peraza: 2-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 strikeout

  • Star of the Game: Jhony Brito – 5 IP, 5 H, 2 R (1 ER), 0 BB, 6 K, 82 pitches (59 strikes). Brito boasts a strong 3.11 ERA on the season and deserved better than a loss in this one
  • Ezequiel Duran: 2-for-3, 1 strikeout
  • Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Derek Craft: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 18 pitches (9 strikes)

Game 2

  • Star of the Game: Ezequiel Duran – 1-for-3, 1 home run (8), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Duran’s OPS is over .900 for the season, and his fourth-inning solo shot gave the Renegades the lead
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Mitch Spence – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 76 pitches (50 strikes). Spence has 38 strikeouts through 34.1 innings in 2021

  • Frederick Cuevas: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored

FCL Yankees (2-1): Dominguez and Co. must keep waiting to play their fourth game. The contest between the Yanks and Tigers West will be made up on July 15.
