Pinstriped Performances: Football scores in the Yankees farm system

2021 draftee Cooper Bowman accounts for a third of the runs scored in a 15-7 Tampa win, including a grand slam, while James Nelson gets a slam of his own in Hudson Valley. Scranton gets held to a 1-hit shutout and the Patriots score a touchdown in Altoona.

Somerset Patriots (55-39): The Patriots had back-to-back jacks by Gasper and Pita in the 4th leading to a 7-1 win over the Altoona Curve

  • Star of the Game: Mickey Gasper – 1-for-4, 2 RBI, HR (1). Gasper recorded his first homer of the year after being returned from a rehab assignment and promoted to AA Somerset.

Hudson Valley Renegades (60-35): The ‘Gades responded quickly after Spence gave up 4 runs in the 1st by scoring 5 runs of their own with a grand slam by James Nelson, scoring Dunham, Chaparro and Sanford en route to a 6-4 victory.

Star of the Game: James Nelson – 1-for-2, 1 hit, 1 home run (6), 1 run scored, 4 RBI (35), 2 walks, 1 strikeout. Nelson hits his 6th homer and 1st slam of the year.

Tampa Tarpons (63-29): Tampa only had 2 scoreless innings in a 15-7 win over St. Lucie, including a few first pro homers for some 2021 draftees.

  • Star of the Game: Cooper Bowman – 5.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K, 70 pitches (45 strikes). The 2021 4th rounder hit his first Low-A homer and second pro homer for a grand slam in a 5-run 6th inning
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 HBP
  • Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, 1 triple (1), 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Sweeney hit his first pro triple, scoring Dominguez from first in the 7th
  • Madison Santos: 1-for-3, 1 double (3), 3 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. Santos hit his second double in as many games today
  • Ben Rice: 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 run scored, 3 RBI, 2 walks. Rice hit his first pro home run today, a 422-ft. blast into the swamp behind GMS Field
  • Tyler Hardman: 2-for-3, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. Hardman hit his first pro home run as well today, a 420-ft homer off the Jumbotron in left
  • Blas Castano: 5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 1 HR, 82 pitches (57 strikes)
  • Wellington Diaz: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 45 pitches (30 strikes)

FCL Yankees (22-11): The Yanks managed only three hits and lost to the Blue Jays 4-1.

  • Ryan Anderson: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K Anderson did OK in his first outing since being sent down to the FCL squad
  • Christian Sumoza: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • Denny Larrondo: 3 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 7 K

DSL Yankees: Yanks 1 (12-14) and Yanks 2 (13-13) both had their game postponed today after a scheduled intrasquad game
