Pinstriped Performances: Friday Night Fireworks

Three out of four Yankees affiliates took home wins thanks to power on the mound and at the plate – highlights included Oswald Peraza’s first Double-A home run and yet more brilliance from rapid riser Ken Waldichuk.

Trey Amburgey (Matt Bufano)

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (21-11): Scranton out-hit the Bisons 9-8, but couldn’t come up with the big hit and lost 4-2.

• Star of the Game: Trey Amburgey – 2-for-4, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Amburgey’s drive to deep left in the seventh inning caught the eye of his biggest fan, former Yankee and RailRider Erik Kratz
• Estevan Florial: 0-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
• Socrates Brito: 2-for-4
• Andrew Velazquez: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout
• Brody Koerner: 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 80 pitches (45 strikes)
• Albert Abreu: 1.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 45 pitches (24 strikes). Abreu gave up multiple runs in an outing for the first time this season
• Kyle Barraclough: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 32 pitches (21 strikes)
• Trevor Lane: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (21-12): Great performances all over the field powered the Patriots to a 5-2 win over Erie that halted a three-game skid.

• Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 2-for-5, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Peraza led off the game with his first of what will be many Double-A home runs
• Pitching Star of the Game: Shawn Semple – 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 7 K, 79 pitches (52 strikes). The 25-year-old Jersey native submitted by far his best effort of the season
• Oswaldo Cabrera: 3-for-5, 2 doubles, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base. Cabrera stole home as part of a double steal executed with Michael Beltre in the first inning
• Michael Beltre: 0-for-1, 1 run scored, 3 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases
• Oliver Dunn: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Dunn’s three-run shot with two outs in the fourth inning proved to be the winning blow
• Reid Anderson: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 31 pitches (20 strikes)
• Kevin Gadea: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 16 pitches (7 strikes)
• Stephen Ridings: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 23 pitches (15 strikes). A couple days after his scoreless streak was broken, Ridings picked himself up, dusted himself off, and nailed down his second save of the year

Ken Waldichuk (Robert M Pimpsner)

Hudson Valley Renegades (18-14): The Renegades dominated Brooklyn 8-0 thanks to six extra-base hits and yet another gem from its ace.

• Star of the Game: Ken Waldichuk – 6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 10 K, 84 pitches (54 strikes). Ho hum. Waldichuk walked two in the first inning, but was nearly perfect beyond that, striking out the side to end that frame and then doing so again in the sixth. He’s sporting a casual 55:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio through 30.2 innings
• Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-5, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Duran’s solo shot was the second one in a back-to-back as part of a five-run fourth inning
• Anthony Seigler: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
• Josh Breaux: 1-for-5, 1 RBI, 3 strikeouts
• Eric Wagaman: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 run scored, 1 walk
• James Nelson: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
• Evan Alexander: 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Alexander is having a tough season, but it must have felt good for him to hit his first home run in a big game
• Elvis Peguero: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 23 pitches (16 strikes)
• Charlie Ruegger: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 18 pitches (13 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (24-10): Tampa rode three home runs, all in the first four innings, to a 6-4 defeat of Clearwater.

• Star of the Game: Chad Bell – 3-for-4, 2 home runs (6), 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Bell went deep in the second and fourth innings, and his second one, a solo shot, was recorded at 107 MPH off the bat
• Anthony Volpe: 1-for-5, 1 strikeout
• Austin Wells: 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Wells’ third-inning solo home run traveled 434 feet to the deepest reaches of center field at BayCare Ballpark. It was just his second homer – and equally surprising has been his speed, with seven stolen bases on the year
• Trevor Hauver: 0-for-4, 1 strikeout
• Elijah Dunham: 0-for-1, 1 run scored, 3 walks, 1 stolen base, 1 caught stealing
• Sean Boyle: 3 IP, 5 H, 2 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, 53 pitches (30 strikes)
• Randy Vasquez: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 6 K, 75 pitches (42 strikes). Vasquez got the win to even his record at 1-1
• Clay Aguilar: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 32 pitches (21 strikes). After a tough start to the year, the 22-year-old undrafted free agent has settled in nicely, allowing a run in just one of his last seven appearances
