A prominent Yankee joined Somerset for their series finale and helped them pick up a win. Meanwhile, Austin Wells and Hudson Valley survived a late scare.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (59-39): The RailRiders closed out the week with a 10-5 loss to Lehigh Valley.

  • Star of the Game: Rob Brantly – 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout. Brantly was the only RailRider with multiple hits
  • Sócrates Brito – 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Max Burt: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Nick Nelson: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 R (1 ER), 4 BB, 0 K, 43 pitches (19 strikes)
  • Nick Goody: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 24 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Brody Koerner: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 8 pitches (5 strikes)
  • Luis Gil: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 78 pitches (52 strikes). Gil is working as a reliever these days – potentially a sign of things to come on the big-league roster in September

  • Brooks Kriske: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 7 pitches (5 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (59-42): Six different Patriots, including Gleyber Torres, homered as Somerset rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to beat the RubberDucks 7-4.

  • Star of the Game: Oswaldo Cabrera – 2-for-5, 1 home run (18), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Cabrera’s 18th of the season tacked on two important insurance runs in the 8th inning
  • Gleyber Torres: 1-for-2, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks. Torres is expected to rejoin the Yankees at the end of the week
  • Josh Breaux: 1-for-5, 1 home run (5), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Breaux’s solo blast came in the first inning and was the first step for the Patriots in digging out of the early hole
  • Isiah Gilliam: 1-for-4, 1 home run (9), 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Chad Bell: 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Bell has 18 home runs across three levels this season
  • Oliver Dunn: 3-for-4, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout, 3 stolen bases. Dunn’s solo home run put the Patriots in front for the first time
  • Hayden Wesneski: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 87 pitches (61 strikes)
  • Michael Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 8 pitches (5 strikes)
  • Barrett Loseke: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 12 pitches (8 strikes)
  • Addison Russ: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 8 pitches (5 strikes). Russ picked up his third win
  • Zach Greene: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 16 pitches (7 strikes). Green locked down his first save at Double-A

Hudson Valley Renegades (63-38): The ‘Gades took a 9-1 lead and then held on for dear life, eventually pulling out a 9-6 win over Winston-Salem.

  • Star of the Game: Austin Wells – 1-for-4, 1 home run (4), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 3 strikeouts. Wells’ three-run homer to extend the lead to 9-1 seemed like gravy at the time, but ended up providing the margin of victory after the Dash put up a five-spot in the eighth
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Eric Wagaman: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Pat DeMarco: 3-for-5, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Luis Santos: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Anderson Munoz: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 67 pitches (42 strikes). Munoz has a 4.01 ERA in 24.2 innings at High-A
  • Carlos Espinal: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 16 pitches (10 strikes)
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 0.1 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 26 pitches (14 strikes)
  • Charlie Ruegger: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 3 pitches (3 strikes)
  • Derek Craft: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 19 pitches (12 strikes). Eight saves on the year for Hudson Valley’s de facto closer

Tampa Tarpons (67-33): Tampa managed just three hits in this matchup, losing to Clearwater 6-2.

  • Star of the Game: Alfred Vega – 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 6 K, 65 pitches (39 strikes). Vega, a 20-year-old recently called up from the FCL, had an impressive full-season ball debut
  • Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 1 double, 3 strikeouts. The Martian is working on an 11-game hitting streak and 13-game on-base streak
  • Yorlin Calderon: 4 IP, 4 H, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 0 K, 64 pitches (40 strikes)
