Pinstriped Performances: Heartbreaker in Hartford

The Patriots lost in the most crushing possible fashion, but Scranton finally managed to win one in an up-and-down Friday night across the system.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (6-9): Miguel Andujar is raking, and the rest of his teammates caught up for one night at least as the RailRiders prevailed over Buffalo 5-3.

  • Star of the Game: Miguel Andujar – 3-for-5, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Andujar is hitting a comfortable .317 and making a push to be part of the plans in the Bronx
  • Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, 1 walk
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 strikeouts
  • Ronald Guzman: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • JP Sears: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 45 pitches (29 strikes). Sears is back at it in Triple-A for now after a successful debut stint with the big club
  • Braden Bristo: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 43 pitches (26 strikes)
  • Michael Gomez: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 36 pitches (25 strikes). Gomez took the win in an efficient outing
  • Shelby Miller: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 13 pitches (9 strikes). Miller picked up his first save

Somerset Patriots (7-6): The Patriots carried a 6-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth, but couldn’t close the deal, as Derek Craft served up a walk-off three-run home run with two outs to send his team to a 7-6 loss.

  • Star of the Game: Derek Dietrich – 2-for-4, 1 home run (1), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. The journeyman went yard in the third inning
  • Anthony Volpe: 0-for-2, 3 walks, 2 runs scored, 3 stolen bases
  • Blake Perkins: 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Perkins, who’s hitting .313, gave the Patriots what looked to be an insurmountable 6-3 advantage in the eighth inning
  • Michael Beltre: 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Beltre, who had a strong season with Somerset last year, is off to a slow start and is hitting just .185
  • Luis Medina: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 58 pitches (36 strikes). Medina has a 4.05 ERA in the early going
  • Josh Maciejewski: 4.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 54 pitches (37 strikes)
  • Matt Minnick: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 19 pitches (11 strikes)
  • Derek Craft: 0.2 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 22 pitches (14 strikes). A reliever’s worst nightmare for Craft – the blown save and the loss

Hudson Valley Renegades (6-7): The ‘Gades lost a back-and-forth contest to Brooklyn, 6-4.

  • Star of the Game: Cooper Bowman – 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Bowman has an impressive .936 OPS and five extra-base hits through his first 11 games at High-A
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Tyler Hardman: 1-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • James Nelson: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 2 stolen bases
  • Blas Castano: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 64 pitches (35 strikes)
