The Yanks’ 2021 first round draft choice had a big day, while Hudson Valley walked off and Somerset and Tampa rolled.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (47-26): Deivi Garcia’s season from hell continued and Syracuse beat the RailRiders 5-3.

  • Star of the Game: Andrew Velazquez – 1-for-4, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Velazquez closed out his scalding July on a high note. He hit .317 and slugged .561 this month
  • Thomas Milone: 2-for-4, 1 walk
  • Max McDowell: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Deivi Garcia: 1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 43 pitches (24 strikes). Garcia was yanked after serving up three home runs in just a single inning of work
  • Nick Green: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 46 pitches (26 strikes)
  • Adam Warren: 1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 33 pitches (19 strikes)
  • Greg Weissert: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 32 pitches (20 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (47-29): The Patriots beat Reading for the fourth time in five games, winning Saturday’s matchup 8-2.

  • Star of the Game: Aaron Palensky – 2-for-5, 1 home run (2), 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Palensky, who cooled off significantly after a white-hot May, homered for the first time since June 5
  • Oswald Peraza: 2-for-5, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 stolen base. Peraza hit .286 with four home runs this month
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Jason Lopez: 2-for-5, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Isiah Gilliam: 2-for-4, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Max Burt: 1-for-5, 1 home run (4), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Wandy Peralta: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes). A solid rehab outing for the Yankees lefty
  • Luis Medina: 4 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K, 90 pitches (52 strikes). Medina certainly isn’t used to pitching behind an opener, but he battled without his best stuff
  • Addison Russ: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 1 K, 35 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Zach Greene: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 27 pitches (20 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (49-28): Chad Bell was the hero on Saturday as the ‘Gades walked off winners, 5-4 over Wilmington.

  • Star of the Game: Chad Bell – 2-for-4, 1 home run (10), 1 RBI, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Bell came up with one out in the ninth and smoked one over the left field wall to send the Dutchess Stadium faithful home happy
  • Anthony Volpe: 0-for-5, 1 strikeout
  • Josh Breaux: 3-for-4, 1 double, 1 walk
  • Oliver Dunn: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Pat DeMarco: 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 triple, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. DeMarco is slugging an even .500 at High-A
  • Kyle MacDonald: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base
  • Anderson Munoz: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 4 K, 62 pitches (38 strikes)
  • Jefry Valdez: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 18 pitches (15 strikes)
  • Edgar Barclay: 3.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 57 pitches (41 strikes). The Swiss Army Knife took his talents from Florida to New York this weekend and put together a strong first outing in a long-relief role
  • Carlos Espinal: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 33 pitches (17 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (52-23): That’s four in a row over the punchless Palm Beach Cardinals and six in a row overall for the Tarpons, who won 9-4 on Saturday.

  • Star of the Game: Everson Pereira – 1-for-3, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. Pereira’s two-run double put Tampa on the board as part of a six-run opening frame
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Jhonatan Munoz – 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 70 pitches (47 strikes). Munoz earned a win and set a season high for strikeouts
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Austin Wells: 1-for-6, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Carlos Narvaez: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Roberto Chirinos: 2-for-5, 2 strikeouts
  • Eduardo Torrealba: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Clarke Schmidt: 3 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 43 pitches (23 strikes). It’s been a whirlwind week for Schmidt, who was reported to be traded at least a couple of times, but he continued his rehab with a solid appearance for Tampa
  • Enrique Santana: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 27 pitches (11 strikes)
  • Carson Coleman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 12 pitches (9 strikes)

FCL Yankees (15-5): Trey Sweeney made his professional debut, and hit his first pro home run, in a 13-4 drubbing of Tigers West that also featured the maiden voyages of a number of other 2021 draftees.

  • Star of the Game: Trey Sweeney – 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. In his second at-bat in the third inning, Sweeney drove one over the right-field wall for a solo home run and a very auspicious start to his Yankee career
  • Cooper Bowman: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. The 2021 fourth-round selection also had a nice debut
  • Raimfer Salinas: 1-for-3, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Tyler Hardman: 2-for-2, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk. Another 2021 draft selection, in the fifth round, the 22-year-old out of Oklahoma was impressive in his first game
  • Benjamin Cowles: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. Cowles was a 10th-round pick in this year’s draft and joined his draft-mates in putting together a great debut
  • Grant Richardson: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base. Richardson was this year’s 17th-round pick
  • Madison Santos: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Josue Panacual: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
  • Denny Larrondo: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 3 K. The 19-year-old picked up his third win of the season
  • Starling Perez: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K
  • Yoljeldriz Diaz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K

DSL Yankees: The two Yanks affiliates faced off on Saturday, with Team 2 (9-5) defeating Team 1 (6-8) by a 7-4 score.

  • Star of the Game: Joel Mendez – 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Mendez has cooled off a bit since hitting four home runs in his first six games, but he still sports a healthy .292 batting average and 1.018 OPS
  • Daury Arias: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base
  • Willy Montero: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Jesus Rodriguez: 2-for-2, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Hans Montero: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Enger Castellano: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Christopher Familia: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Miguel Marte: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Henry Lalane: 4 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
  • Kevin Aparicio: 3 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K. Aparicio picked up the win for DSL Yanks 2
  • Donys Garcia: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 3 K. Garcia suffered the loss
  • Pedro Rodriguez: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K
  • Diego Cordero: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 4 K
