Pinstriped Performances: Huge Steps Back

All three teams in the midst of pennant chases suffered blowout losses on Friday night.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (57-51): The winning streak has ended in devastating fashion, as Worcester hit five home runs and blasted the RailRiders 14-5.

  • Star of the Game: Oswaldo Cabrera – 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI. Cabrera has a five-game hitting streak and is batting .360 this month
  • Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Ben Rortvedt: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Armando Alvarez: 1-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Sean Boyle: 3.1 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 3 BB, 3 K, 78 pitches (45 strikes). Boyle did not fare well in his first start of the season at Triple-A
  • Jose Mujica: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 24 pitches (14 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (65-40): The Patriots got off to a quick start and never looked back in a 7-3 win over the Yard Goats.

  • Star of the Game: Andres Chaparro – 3-for-4, 1 home run (9), 1 double, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored. Chaparro went deep with two on and two outs in the first inning to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead
  • Anthony Volpe: 2-for-4, 1 stolen base
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Deivi Garcia: 5 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 10 K, 75 pitches (53 strikes). Garcia was brilliant in securing his first win with Somerset this year, putting up double digit strikeouts for the first time since June 18, 2019, when he punched out 15 for the Trenton Thunder
  • Nick Ernst: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 39 pitches (26 strikes)
  • Carson Coleman: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 20 pitches (14 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (56-49): The ‘Gades were blanked in embarrassing fashion by Aberdeen, 10-0.

  • Star of the Game: None
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-2, 2 walks
  • Josue Panacual: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 7 R (6 ER), 3 BB, 6 K, 94 pitches (56 strikes). Panacual has a 5.80 ERA and a 2-5 record with Hudson Valley
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 31 pitches (18 strikes)
  • Kevin Milam: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 36 pitches (19 strikes)

Antonio Gomez (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (50-54): The Tarpons couldn’t make an early lead stand up, giving up seven unanswered runs to lose 7-2 to the Blue Jays.

  • Zach Messinger: 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 78 pitches (51 strikes). Messinger fell to 0-7
  • Enrique Santana: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 24 pitches (14 strikes)
  • Nick Paciorek: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 25 pitches (14 strikes)

RHP Yorlin Calderon (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

FCL Yankees (33-13): The Yanks put up a four-spot in the eighth to sink the Blue Jays, 6-2.

  • Star of the Game: Jackson Lyon – 1-for-3, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout. The 22-year-old, signed to a minor league deal on July 25, was making his professional debut and doubled home two runs in the first inning
  • Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 walk
  • Omar Martinez: 2-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Brenny Escanio: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 3 stolen bases

  • Luis Arejula: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

DSL Yankees (24-26): The Yanks ran past Cubs Blue 9-4.

  • Star of the Game: Ramiro Altagracia – 2-for-4, 5 RBI, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base. Altagracia is hitting just .191 overall but much better in August, at .241
  • Keiner Delgado: 1-for-2, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 stolen base
  • Juan Matheus: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Abrahan Ramirez: 1-for-1, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Christian Zazueta: 3 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
  • Alejandro Gomez: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 3 K. Gomez earned his fourth win

DSL Bombers (24-27): The slide continues for the Bombers, who fell hard to Pirates Gold, 13-4.

  • Star of the Game: John Cruz – 1-for-4, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Cruz homered for the first time in three weeks
  • Luis Suarez: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts
  • Luis Ogando: 2-for-3, 1 RBI
  • Edwar Polimir: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 6 R (5 ER), 4 BB, 3 K
