Pinstriped Performances: HV Stays Hot

Tuesday should have been the first scheduled day of all affiliates in action, but the rain derailed some of those plans. The Renegades kept up their recent run of good play, and there were some slugfests at the rookie level.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (19-34): The RailRiders’ series opener in Syracuse was postponed due to rain and will be made up on Friday.

Somerset Patriots (32-19): Just an out away from a 3-2 win over Akron, the Patriots gave up a run in the ninth and another in the tenth to see the tables turned in a 4-3 loss.

  • Star of the Game: Josh Breaux – 3-for-5, 1 home run (11), 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Breaux’s OPS is up to .841 as he continues to make his case to be part of the Yankees’ plans
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-4. Volpe has finally crested a .700 OPS
  • Jesus Bastidas: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Randy Vasquez: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R (1 ER), 3 BB, 4 K, 85 pitches (51 strikes)
  • Barrett Loseke: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 22 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Emmanuel Ramirez: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 20 pitches (14 strikes)
  • Derek Craft: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 0 K, 20 pitches (9 strikes). Craft induced a double play in the ninth, but then gave up back-to-back hits to blow the save – his third of the year
  • Jose Mujica: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 2 K, 16 pitches (12 strikes). Mujica took the extra-inning loss

Hudson Valley Renegades (25-26): The suddenly blazing ‘Gades have won four in a row after rallying in the eighth inning to defeat the BlueClaws 3-2.

  • Star of the Game: Blane Abeyta – 5.1 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 94 pitches (63 strikes). Following a string of tough starts in May, Abeyta rebounded to tie a season high in innings pitched and set a season high in strikeouts
  • Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, 1 triple, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI. Pereira doubled home the winning run with two outs in the eighth
  • Alex Mauricio: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 35 pitches (26 strikes). Mauricio moved to 3-0 with the win
  • Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (7 strikes). Myatt pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save

Tampa Tarpons (22-29): The Tarpons’ matchup against Palm Beach wasn’t played due to wet grounds. No makeup date has been announced.

FCL Yankees (2-0): The Yanks crushed three home runs in a 13-11 defeat of the Tigers.

  • Star of the Game: Agustin Ramirez – 2-for-5, 1 home run (1), 3 RBI, 1 run scored. The 20-year-old has two extra-base hits in two games
  • Dayro Perez: 2-for-3, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases. Perez is off to a hot start with two homers in as many games and a 2.271 OPS
  • Brenny Escanio: 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Felix Negueis: 3-for-4, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Justin Lange: 2.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 4 K. The Yankees acquired Lange in the Luke Voit trade
  • Cole Ayers: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
  • Yorlin Calderon: 5 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 9 K. Calderon got the win
  • Nolberto Henriquez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Henriquez picked up a save

DSL Yankees (1-1): The Yankees lost a wild one to Mets 1, 14-12.

  • Star of the Game: Gabriel Bersing – 2-for-6, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 3 strikeouts. The 19-year-old hit .324 last season in the DSL
  • Keiner Delgado: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 2 walks
  • Christian Zazueta: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Alejandro Gomez: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 2 K
  • Jan Pena: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
  • Ronald Roman: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 1 K
  • Luis Urbano: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 1 K
  • Ernesto Disla: 1.2 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. Disla took the loss

DSL Bombers (1-1): Despite allowing no earned runs, the Bombers dropped a 3-1 decision to Cubs Blue.

  • Star of the Game: Miguel Pozo – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K. Pozo is coming off a successful 2021 during which he posted a 2.58 ERA
  • Fidel Montero: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts
  • Rafaelin Nivar: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 2 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 2 K. Nivar picked up a loss and a blown save
  • Gerardo Abrego: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 5 K
