Pinstriped Performances: Jhony On The Spot

Another complete Patriots performance saw off the Sea Dogs in style. Tampa split a twin bill, and the Renegades couldn’t quite finish the job.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (9-13): Scranton held a 3-2 lead heading into the eighth inning, then succumbed to a flurry of IronPigs runs and slumped to a 9-3 defeat.

  • Star of the Game: Estevan Florial – 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts. Florial is 17-for-69 with six extra-base hits this year
  • Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 stolen base
  • Max McDowell: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored
  • Ryan LaMarre: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Manny Bañuelos: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K, 71 pitches (44 strikes). The 31-year-old hasn’t allowed more than two runs in any of his four starts
  • David McKay: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 19 pitches (10 strikes)
  • Ron Marinaccio: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 33 pitches (22 strikes). Marinaccio’s return from a monthlong stint in the Bronx was a brilliant one
  • Reggie McClain: 0.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 15 pitches (8 strikes). McClain was tagged with his first loss and a blown save
  • Shelby Miller: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 0 K, 16 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Jose Mujica: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 9 pitches (7 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (14-7): Home runs from Anthony Volpe and Andres Chaparro, plus seven innings of brilliance from Jhony Brito, proved a winning formula as the Patriots took five of six from Portland, finishing the week with a 5-0 win.

  • Star of the Game: Jhony Brito – 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 67 pitches (52 strikes). Brito made it look downright easy on Sunday, breezing through the Sea Dogs lineup while running only one three-ball count the entire afternoon
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-3, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 walks. The organization’s top prospect has started quietly, but is slowly rounding into form – he’s 6 for his last 16
  • Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-5, 1 triple, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Andres Chaparro: 1-for-3, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Chaparro has homered in two straight and three of his last five games
  • Jeisson Rosario: 0-for-1, 3 walks, 2 stolen bases
  • Mickey Gasper: 2-for-4, 1 run scored
  • Emmanuel Ramirez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 8 pitches (7 strikes)
  • Kyle Zurak: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 9 pitches (7 strikes)

Eric Wagaman (Robert M Pimpsner/Pinstriped Prospects)

Hudson Valley Renegades (12-8): The ‘Gades were two outs away from taking five of six from Wilmington, but a ninth-inning rally propelled the Blue Rocks to an 8-6 win.

  • Star of the Game: Eric Wagaman – 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Wagaman is hitting .333 and put the Renegades on the board with his two-run shot in the second inning
  • Everson Pereira: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Austin Wells: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 3 strikeouts. Wells has now reached base safely in 10 of 11 games and homered in three of five
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-2, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 2 walks
  • Aaron Palensky: 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Blane Abeyta: 3 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 75 pitches (45 strikes)
  • Carson Coleman: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 33 pitches (25 strikes). Coleman ran his season-opening scoreless streak to 12.2 innings
  • Bryan Blanton: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 42 pitches (25 strikes)
  • Charlie Ruegger: 1 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 0 K, 29 pitches (13 strikes). Ruegger was tagged with his first loss following a ninth inning during which he walked three and hit a batter
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 3 pitches (2 strikes)

Roberto Chirinos (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (9-11): The Tarpons defeated Lakeland 3-2 in the first game of the doubleheader, then were held to just one hit in losing the return leg 3-0.

Game 1

  • Star of the Game: Anthony Garcia – 2-for-3, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Garcia’s second-inning solo shot put the Tarpons on the board and helped his sky-high 1.139 OPS
  • Anthony Seigler: 1-for-1, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 walks
  • Roberto Chirinos: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Luis Santos: 1-for-3, 1 triple, 1 strikeout
  • Chandler Champlain: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 67 pitches (48 strikes). Chandler has pitched to a solid 2.87 ERA in his first four pro starts
  • Bailey Dees: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 12 pitches (7 strikes). Dees, an 18th-round draft pick last year, earned his first professional win in his first appearance above rookie ball
  • Jack Neely: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (11 strikes). Neely picked up his second save

Game 2

  • Star of the Game: Josue Panacual – 4 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 80 pitches (50 strikes). Panacual ran into trouble in the first inning but then settled down – he retired the next seven hitters in a row and struck out the side in the third
  • Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3, 1 strikeout
  • Kevin Milam: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Zach Messinger: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 13 pitches (10 strikes)
  • Danny Watson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
