Pinstriped Performances: Nothing Coming Easy

The first-place Somerset Patriots just wrapped up a six-game sweep of Hartford with their eighth straight win overall – and they didn’t gain so much as a game over the Portland Sea Dogs in the process! With one regular season series to go, the lead is three and a half games and the Patriots have it all to play for against Akron.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (64-47): While it was an overall productive week bouncing back from that horrific losing streak, Scranton couldn’t close it in style, losing to Rochester 8-7.

  • Star of the Game: Matt Krook – 5 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 85 pitches (53 strikes). The bullpen couldn’t come through, but Krook more than did his part with his fourth straight outing of at least five innings and no more than one run allowed
  • Ryan LaMarre: 2-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Donny Sands: 1-for-3, 1 home run (8), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Sands has pushed his OPS north of .800
  • Sócrates Brito: 1-for-4, 1 home run (9), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Adam Warren: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 20 pitches (16 strikes)
  • Braden Bristo: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 24 pitches (17 strikes)
  • Brooks Kriske: 0 IP, 0 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 0 K, 27 pitches (7 strikes). Kriske adds another ignominous entry to his cursed season of epic meltdowns
  • Nick Goody: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 12 pitches (9 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (69-44): The Patriots brought out the brooms in force, sweeping aside Hartford 11-3 thanks to five home runs.

  • Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 1-for-4, 1 home run (11), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Take your pick of the sluggers tonight, but we’ll go with Peraza, who’s capping off a wonderful season by hitting .400 so far this month
  • Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 stolen bases. Lockridge stole home in the third
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 3 walks, 1 stolen base
  • Michael Beltre: 1-for-5, 1 home run (16), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Beltre has an outside chance at a 20-20 season. He’s already stolen 34 bases
  • Dermis Garcia: 1-for-3, 1 home run (28), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks. Garcia extended his team, league, and system lead in dingers
  • Isiah Gilliam: 1-for-4, 1 home run (11), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Jason Lopez: 1-for-4, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Ken Waldichuk: 4 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 5 K, 82 pitches (45 strikes)
  • Sean Boyle: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 2 K, 37 pitches (25 strikes). Boyle earned the win
  • Addison Russ: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 8 pitches (7 strikes)
  • Nick Ernst: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (11 strikes)

Austin Wells (Robert M. Pimpsner)

Hudson Valley Renegades (68-46): The division champs beat up on Brooklyn 13-9 and, well, it all comes down to this week. A six-game set against Greensboro will decide who will take on Bowling Green for the league championship; the ‘Gades will need to take five of six, as the Grasshoppers have a three game lead.

  • Star of the Game: Austin Wells – 2-for-4, 1 home run (7), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Wells hit a big two-run homer as part of a seven-run outburst in the second inning
  • Anthony Volpe: 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-5, 1 home run (12), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 3 strikeouts. Make it six home runs in six games for the red-hot Pereira
  • Andres Chaparro: 2-for-4, 1 home run (8), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Chaparro has raised his OPS to .980 during an absurd September in which he is slugging .974. That’s not his OPS over this stretch, mind you. That’s his slugging percentage
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, 1 home run (8), 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Matt Sauer: 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 8 K, 89 pitches (57 strikes). Sauer has struck out 45 in 39 innings for Hudson Valley
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 2 K, 28 pitches (17 strikes)
  • Nelvin Correa: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 10 pitches (7 strikes)
  • Edgar Barclay: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 13 pitches (11 strikes)
  • Derek Craft: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (12 strikes)

Tyler Hardman (Photo by John Brophy / Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (72-40): The Tarpons dropped the series finale to Dunedin 4-2, and while they have six games remaining against Fort Myers, the series is meaningless – they already know they’ll square off against Bradenton for the league championship.

  • Star of the Game: Tyler Hardman – 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Hardman had the only RBI of the game for Tampa and is hitting a respectable .253
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Tyrone Yulie: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 4 K, 56 pitches (31 strikes)
  • Carlos Gomez: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 40 pitches (27 strikes)
  • Ben Keizer: 2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 1 K, 41 pitches (20 strikes)
  • Clay Aguilar: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 13 pitches (10 strikes)
  • Carson Coleman: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
