Pinstriped Performances: Oh Henri!

The tropical storm that wreaked havoc in the Northeast banged Hudson Valley’s series finale against Brooklyn and the RailRiders’ showdown in Worcester, but the two other teams managed to bring home the Sunday gravy.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (55-37): Henri took aim at central Massachusetts and did away with this game. Since the two teams don’t play again, it won’t be made up.

Somerset Patriots (56-39): Rehabbing Gio Urshela and the Patriots beat Altoona 6-2 to wrap up the week.

  • Star of the Game: Hayden Wesneski – 5.1 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K, 90 pitches (59 strikes). Wesneski has been on a roll this month, posting 26 strikeouts against six walks and a 1.16 ERA as he settles in after a rough start to his Double-A career
  • Oswald Peraza: 2-for-5, 1 run scored
  • Gio Urshela: 3-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored. It’s great to see Urshela back on the field, and he certainly looks game ready
  • Josh Breaux: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Michael Beltre: 2-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Chad Bell: 2-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts

  • Addison Russ: 2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 32 pitches (19 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (60-35): The finale of the Cyclones-Renegades series will have to be made up on September 8 thanks to Henri’s effects.

Tampa Tarpons (64-29): Tampa bashed five extra-base hits and held the Mets offense silent all day in an easy 8-2 win that closed out a winning week.

  • Star of the Game: Cooper Bowman – 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. This year’s 4th-round pick is hitting just .195, but he seems to be heating up, with a three-game hit streak and homers in back-to-back contests
  • Trey Sweeney: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Ben Rice: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Benjamin Cowles: 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 3 RBI, 1 run scored. Cowles has a solid .892 OPS
  • Roberto Chirinos: 2-for-4
  • Beck Way: 4.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K, 74 pitches (47 strikes). Way has flipped a switch in August. Last month, he struck out 24 and walked a whopping 15 in 16 innings. This month, the ratio is 20 Ks to 3 BBs in 17.2 innings
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 1 K, 32 pitches (14 strikes). Despite a distinct lack of command, Munoz worked around the trouble to record the win
  • Enrique Santana: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 2 K, 37 pitches (15 strikes)
  • Michael Giacone: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 29 pitches (21 strikes)
