Pinstriped Performances: Perfect Rookie Monday

The FCL Yanks and both DSL squads took home solid wins to open up the week.

FCL Yankees (27-13): Much like their big-league parents, the Yanks are locked in a tight race for a regular season championship with the Rays. They remained one game back after defeating Tigers West 10-7, while Tampa downed Orioles Orange.

  • Star of the Game: Agustin Ramirez – 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. The 19-year-old, an FCL rookie, hasn’t hit a ton this year, but five of his nine hits have gone for extra bases
  • Grant Richardson: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Raimfer Salinas: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Alex Guerrero: 2-for-3, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 stolen base
  • Kyle Battle: 1-for-3, 1 double, 3 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Yarison Ruiz: 3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 5 BB, 5 K
  • Christian Sumoza: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 0 BB, 4 K
  • Kevin Milam: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K. Milam moved to 2-1 on the year
  • Edward Paredes: 1 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 ER), 0 BB, 0 K

DSL Yankees 1 (17-16): Two young Venezuelans, both having monster months, helped pace the Yanks to an 8-5 win over the Twins in 10 innings.

  • Star of the Game: Allen Facundo – 5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K. Facundo turned in what likely amounts to the best single-game pitching performance for the DSL Yanks all season. The impressive 18-year-old has put up a 2.53 ERA and 36 strikeouts in just 21.1 innings this month
  • Hitting Star of the Game: Manuel Palencia – 4-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. Palencia is hitting .325 in August
  • Felix Negueis: 2-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Christopher Familia: 3-for-5, 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Jared Serna: 2-for-5, 1 triple, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Miguel Pozo: 1 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 1 K
  • Sebastian Perrone: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • Pedro Rodriguez: 0.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K
  • Yordi Pichardo: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K. Pichardo blew the save in allowing the tying run to score in the ninth, but pitched a clean bottom of the 10th to pick up the win

DSL Yankees 2 (18-15): The Franklin Corniel/Jan Pena pairing did its thing as the Yankees beat Giants Orange 4-2.

  • Star of the Game: Franklin Corniel – 4 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K. Corniel looked more like his July self in this one after a run of four tough outings to open up this month
  • Dayro Perez: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Nicolas Garcia: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Josue Gonzalez: 1-for-3, 1 triple, 1 run scored
  • Jan Pena: 4 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K. Pena, a relative senior citizen at 21 years of age who often piggybacks with Corniel, posted his sixth straight appearance of at least four innings with no more than two earned runs allowed
  • Alejandro Gomez: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K. The 19-year-old from Jalisco picked up his first professional save in his third appearance
