Pinstriped Performances: Pitching Wins Championships

The weather wreaked havoc in Florida, but the affiliates that managed to get games in shut down their opponents: the RailRiders, Patriots and Renegades allowed just four runs between them in three games, all victories.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (38-43): Scranton just keeps winning ballgames, recording its ninth triumph in ten contests with a 5-3 win in Worcester.

  • Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 2-for-4, 3 RBI, 1 walk. Peraza knocked in a run in the third and had the go-ahead, two-run single in the seventh
  • Estevan Florial: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout
  • Tim Locastro: 3-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Derek Dietrich: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts
  • Matt Krook: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 84 pitches (55 strikes). Krook has recorded four statistical quality starts in his last five trips to the mound – and that fifth start was his five-inning perfecto
  • Jimmy Cordero: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 25 pitches (19 strikes)
  • Greg Weissert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 15 pitches (12 strikes). Another lockdown ninth for Weissert resulted in his ninth save

Somerset Patriots (48-30): Patriots pitching held the Baysox to just four hits in a 5-0 win.

  • Star of the Game: Will Warren – 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 89 pitches (67 strikes). Warren completed seven innings for the first time this year, and did not walk a batter on the night, something he hadn’t done since May
  • Anthony Volpe: 2-for-3, 1 double, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases. Volpe has 35 steals
  • Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Rodolfo Duran: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Chad Bell: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Barrett Loseke: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 20 pitches (12 strikes)
  • Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 16 pitches (13 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (41-37): The Renegades won their fifth game in a row in convincing fashion, 7-1 over Jersey Shore.

  • Star of the Game: Blas Castano – 6 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 8 K, 87 pitches (60 strikes). Castano tied a season high for strikeouts and has lowered his ERA to 3.06 with a recent stretch of strong pitching
  • Trey Sweeney: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Everson Pereira: 3-for-5, 1 double, 3 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Spencer Henson: 1-for-5, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Henson’s two-run blast capped off a four-run third inning
  • Ryan Miller: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 35 pitches (25 strikes)
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 14 pitches (8 strikes)

Yon Castro (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (35-42): The Tarpons were gifted a 3-2 win over Fort Myers when the game was called due to weather in the sixth inning.

  • Star of the Game: Yon Castro – 4.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 75 pitches (51 strikes). Castro continues to rack up the Ks – he has 67 in 55 innings pitched
  • Marcos Cabrera: 0-for-2, 1 RBI. Cabrera hit a sac fly to score the eventual winning run
  • Kyle Battle: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base
  • Gerrit van Zijll: 1.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 19 pitches (13 strikes). Van Zijll took the win and has a 1-1 record

FCL Yankees (16-6): The Yanks were leading the Blue Jays 9-8 in the eighth inning when weather interrupted the contest. It’ll be finished tomorrow.

DSL Yankees (11-14): The Yankees went down 6-0, but scored the final eight runs of the contest to defeat Pirates Black.

  • Star of the Game: Edinzo Marquez – 4.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. The 17-year-old rookie has 16 strikeouts in 13 innings
  • Keiner Delgado: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Manuel Palencia: 3-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Santiago Gomez: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • David Beckles: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Carlos Lagrange: 2 IP, 3 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Jordy Luciano: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K. Luciano got his first win of the year
  • Jan Pena: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Pena’s save was his first of the season

DSL Bombers (15-11): The Bombers lost to the Marlins 8-4 thanks to a whopping ten errors. They did not allow a single earned run in the loss.

  • Star of the Game: John Cruz – 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 triple, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. The 16-year-old has an .835 OPS
  • Edinson Duran: 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Angel Benitez: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Diego Hernandez: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 5 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 4 K
