A rehabbing veteran helped Hudson Valley keep rolling, and Scranton battled back to even their critical series.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (52-49): The pivotal six-game set between Scranton and visiting Buffalo is tied at one following the RailRiders’ 5-2 Wednesday win.

  • Star of the Game: Tyler Wade – 2-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 2 runs score,d 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Wade hit his first home run since his return to the RailRiders

Somerset Patriots (60-37): The listless Patriots dropped another contest to Binghamton, 6-2.

  • Star of the Game: Max Burt – 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout. Burt had a good start to August after homering five times in July
  • Chad Bell: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout

  • Randy Vasquez: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R (0 ER), 3 BB, 1 K, 87 pitches (50 strikes). Vasquez, who dropped to 0-4 with the loss, walked 38 hitters in 107.1 innings last year – and has already walked 33 in just 82.1 frames this season

Hudson Valley Renegades (52-45): The bottom-dwelling BlueClaws have been no match for the ‘Gades so far, as Wednesday’s matchup went HV’s way, 7-2.

  • Star of the Game: Shawn Semple – 5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 58 pitches (44 strikes). Making his second rehab appearance since missing three and a half months, the 26-year-old looks more than ready to rejoin Scranton’s rotation
  • Trey Sweeney: 2-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Eric Wagaman: 4-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Wagaman set a season high for hits in a game
  • Spencer Henson: 2-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • James Nelson: 1-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 3 strikeouts
  • Edgar Barclay: 3 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 39 pitches (28 strikes)
  • Kevin Milam: 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 21 pitches (12 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (47-50): The Tarpons preempted Thursday’s weather by playing a doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating the Threshers 6-2 in the first game before falling 6-5 in extras in the second.

Game 1

  • Star of the Game: Ben Rice – 2-for-3, 1 home run (6), 5 RBI, 1 run scored. Rice almost singlehandedly fueled the Tarpons offense in this game, and five of his six long balls have come in the last month
  • Antonio Gomez: 1-for-2, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Jared Serna: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Yon Castro: 4.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K, 71 pitches (50 strikes)
  • Bailey Dees: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 6 K, 33 pitches (24 strikes). Dees moved to 4-3 with the win

Game 2

  • Star of the Game: Sean Hermann – 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 85 pitches (60 strikes). In his first two full-season starts, Hermann has put up an impressive 10 strikeouts against three walks
  • Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout. With hits in both legs of the twin bill, Gomez has extended his hitting streak to 12 games
  • Jared Serna: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Benjamin Cowles: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 stolen base
  • Christopher Familia: 1-for-4, 2 RBI. Familia’s two-run single cut the deficit to one in the ninth, then the tying run scored on a wild pitch to cap off the dramatic rally
  • Danny Watson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Harold Cortijo: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Zach Kohn: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 3 R (2 ER), 4 BB, 1 K, 27 pitches (7 strikes)
  • Gerrit van Zijll: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 0 K, 12 pitches (8 strikes). van Zijll allowed the winning run to score on a sacrifice fly and took his second loss of the year

DSL Yankees (20-23): The Yankees allowed a late rally to lose to Pirates Black 4-2.
