Pinstriped Performances: Quarter Century For Dermis

Dermis Garcia’s bombs have rained down on Patriots opponents all season long, and he hit a big milestone on Thursday. In Allentown, the RailRiders knocked on the door of another no-hitter.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (58-37): RailRiders pitching didn’t allow a hit until the seventh inning in a comfortable 6-0 win over the IronPigs.

  • Star of the Game: Greg Allen – 1-for-4, 1 home run (4), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Allen left no doubt about the outcome of this one with a big three-run shot in the seventh inning to put the game out of reach
  • Armando Alvarez: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Sócrates Brito: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Kyle Holder: 1-for-2, 2 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Brandon Wagner: 2-for-3, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk
  • Matt Krook: 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 76 pitches (45 strikes). Krook put zeroes on the board in a start for the first time since July 10
  • Reggie McClain: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 29 pitches (16 strikes)
  • Brody Koerner: 2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 31 pitches (22 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (58-40): Three home runs and a whole bunch of Luis Medina strikeouts led to a 7=3 Patriots win over the RubberDucks.

  • Star of the Game: Dermis Garcia – 2-for-4, 1 home run (25), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. Over the Mendoza Line and rounding the quarter-century pole – quite an evening for Somerset’s young slugger
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Luis Medina – 5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 12 K, 90 pitches (60 strikes). It’s hard to put a label on Medina’s inconsistent season, but nights like this remind fans of just how high his ceiling can be
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-4, 1 home run (17), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Cabrera added to his impressive total with a solo shot in the first inning
  • Josh Breaux: 2-for-4, 1 double, 2 runs scored
  • Isiah Gilliam: 1-for-4, 1 home run (8), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Gilliam’s three-run home run in the eighth turned a nailbiter into a rout
  • Mickey Gasper: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Jefry Valdez: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 35 pitches (19 strikes). Valdez picked up the win

Hudson Valley Renegades (61-37): A tough day for Matt Sauer and the Renegades, who fell to the Dash 11-4.

  • Star of the Game: Luis Santos – 1-for-2, 1 home run (1), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Santos isn’t much known for power, but the 21-year-old, who started this season in the FCL, can celebrate his first High-A dinger
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Andres Chaparro: 2-for-3, 1 walk
  • Matt Sauer: 5.2 IP, 10 H, 8 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 82 pitches (61 strikes). Sauer got smacked around and carries an unsightly 5.96 ERA at this level
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 26 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Trevor Holloway: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches (10 strikes)

  • Starling Perez: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
