Pinstriped Performances: Rookie Blues

The FCL and DSL Yanks have certainly had better days. All three rookie-level affiliates started their weeks with bad losses.

FCL Yankees (18-7): The Yanks-Blue Jays matchup was cut down to six innings because of lightning, but that was plenty of time for the Jays to put two touchdowns on the scoreboard and crush the Bombers 12-2. A second scheduled game was postponed until tomorrow.

  • Star of the Game: Nelson Gomez – 1-for-1, 1 double, 2 RBI. Gomez was the entire Yankees offense with a two-run double in the sixth
  • Antonio Gomez: 1-for-3, 1 strikeout
  • Anthony Garcia: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Connor Pellerin: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 1 K
  • Yorlin Calderon: 1.2 IP, 8 H, 9 R (8 ER), 2 BB, 2 K. Calderon was called up from the DSL to make his debut, and it was not a pleasant one
  • Jarod Lessar: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

DSL Yankees 1 (8-12): Phillies Red beat the Yankees 5-1.

  • Star of the Game: Alan Mejia – 2-for-4, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. The 20-year-old, in his third campaign in the DSL, has nine career home runs
  • Fidel Montero: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 strikeouts
  • Omar Martinez: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Jared Serna: 3-for-4
  • Miguel Pozo: 3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
  • Allen Facundo: 3.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 6 K
  • Ruben Castillo: 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

DSL Yankees 2 (11-9): Yanks 2 fell behind 9-0 on the road to an 11-2 defeat at the hands of the Rockies.

  • Star of the Game: Mauro Bonifacio – 2-for-3, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Bonifacio leads the entire DSL with six home runs, one ahead of Yanks 2 teammates Daury Arias and Joel Mendez
  • Brenny Escanio: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Miguel Torres: 1-for-3, 1 home run (4), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Franklin Corniel: 3 IP, 8 H, 9 R (7 ER), 4 BB, 4 K
  • Jan Pena: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K
