Pinstriped Performances: Somerset Wins Sunday Slugfest

Though a nine-run lead faded, the Patriots escaped with an offense-charged win. JP Sears and the big bats lifted reeling Scranton.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (12-22): Big names with big league experience provided everything the RailRiders needed as they downed the Mets 3-1 in the series finale.

  • Star of the Game: JP Sears – 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 65 pitches (46 strikes). Sears has given up just a single earned run in 17 innings of work at Triple-A this year
  • Estevan Florial: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Florial is slashing .333/.415/.528 this month
  • Miguel Andújar: 2-for-3, 1 home run (4), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Andújar’s blast added an insurance run in the sixth inning
  • Michael Gomez: 0.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K, 9 pitches (7 strikes)
  • David McKay: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 15 pitches (11 strikes)

Somerset Patriots (21-11): Crooked numbers in the sixth and seventh lifted the Patriots to a 12-3 lead, and though they immediately gave up five of those runs in the bottom of the seventh, they held the Curve silent the rest of the way for a 12-8 win.

  • Star of the Game: Chad Bell – 4-for-5, 1 home run (3), 1 double, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Bell opened the scoring with a solo home run in the third, then added two RBI singles later in the game. His OPS stands at .853
  • Jeisson Rosario: 2-for-5, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Rosario has swiped six bags
  • Michael Beltre: 3-for-5, 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Oliver Dunn: 2-for-4, 1 home run (1), 4 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Dunn’s three-run blast capped off the Patriots scoring in the seventh
  • Ken Waldichuk: 5 IP, 6 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 6 K, 89 pitches (57 strikes). Waldichuk has struck out 18 and walked four over his last two starts
  • Steven Jennings: 1.1 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 52 pitches (36 strikes). Jennings allowed more runs on Sunday than he had in his first nine appearances of the season combined
  • Kyle Zurak: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 29 pitches (19 strikes)

Hudson Valley Renegades (15-17): The Renegades banged out 13 hits, but left 12 men on base and went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position in a frustrating 3-2 loss to Aberdeen.

  • Star of the Game: Austin Wells – 3-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Wells has to be in line for a promotion soon with 13 extra-base hits, a 1.024 OPS, 19 walks to 27 strikeouts, and nine stolen bases to his name
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Pat DeMarco: 3-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Blas Castaño: 4.2 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 4 K, 81 pitches (51 strikes)
  • Alex Mauricio: 1.2 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 39 pitches (24 strikes)
  • Welington Diaz: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches (21 strikes). Diaz was saddled with the loss, his first of the year
  • Jhonatan Muñoz: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 15 pitches (11 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (14-18): The Tarpons finished off a tough week with a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Dunedin, their seventh in eight games.

  • Star of the Game: Anthony Garcia – 1-for-4, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Garcia is tied with Derek Dietrich for the organization lead in home runs, and though he’s only hitting .214, his OPS stands at .909
  • Alex Vargas: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Ben Rice: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Roberto Chirinos: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Josue Panacual: 3.2 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 8 K, 72 pitches (46 strikes). Panacual has struck out 31 in 23.1 innings
  • Trevor Holloway: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 20 pitches (15 strikes)
  • Bailey Dees: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 27 pitches (16 strikes). Dees was the losing pitcher
  • Harold Cortijo: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 28 pitches (20 strikes)
