Pinstriped Performances

Pinstriped Performances: Strong Sunday

Three of four Yankees affiliates ended their weeks on a high note, with only the RailRiders dropping their series finale.

Hoy Park on June 4 (Matt Bufano)

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (45-23): After a couple of better outings, Deivi García got lit up again and the RailRiders dropped the series finale to Rochester 7-4.

  • Star of the Game: Hoy Jun Park – 1-for-3, 1 home run (10), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Park has hits in three out of four games since returning from his brief one-game appearance in New York
  • Andrew Velazquez: 1-for-3, 1 triple, 1 RBI, 1 walk
  • Armando Alvarez: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI
  • Brandon Wagner: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Deivi García: 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 1 K, 88 pitches (51 strikes). The same problems that bit him today have plagued Deivi all season. He served up three home runs (14 on the season) and issued four free passes (38 for the year)
  • Nick Nelson: 1 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 35 pitches (19 strikes)
  • Adam Warren: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 25 pitches (18 strikes)
  • Brooks Kriske: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 14 pitches (6 strikes). It was nice to see Kriske return to Scranton with a clean inning after his implosion at Fenway on Thursday
  • Nick Green: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 19 pitches (9 strikes)

Jesus Bastidas (Photo by John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Somerset Patriots (43-28): Luis Medina hung tough and the Somerset bats finally broke out in the late innings as the suddenly hot Patriots downed Altoona 7-0.

  • Star of the Game: Jesus Bastidas – 2-for-4, 1 home run (1), 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. The 22-year-old made the jump directly from Tampa last weekend and has hits in his first four career Double-A games
  • Diego Castillo: 1-for-5, 2 runs scored. After a scorching June during which he hit .378, Castillo has hit .163 this month
  • Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-5, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-5, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Dermis Garcia: 1-for-5, 1 home run (17), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Garcia added yet another homer to his system-leading total
  • Jason Lopez: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Luis Medina: 5.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 BB, 6 K, 82 pitches (46 strikes). Medina was yanked with two on and two out in the sixth and did not look pleased about it. He was electric at times when he was on the hill
  • Michael Gomez: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (11 strikes)
  • Ron Marinaccio: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 29 pitches (18 strikes). Though the game wasn’t close when he locked it down, Marinaccio was assessed a save

Anthony Volpe (Photo by John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Hudson Valley Renegades (47-25): The Renegades took care of Aberdeen 10-8 in a back-and-forth affair to clinch another series win.

  • Star of the Game: Anthony Volpe – 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. Volpe’s 15th homer of the season across two levels led off the game. He’s slugging .652 at High-A – even better than his mark with Tampa
  • Anthony Seigler: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Jake Sanford: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Elijah Dunham: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Pablo Olivares: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 walks
  • Reid Anderson: 5 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 89 pitches (56 strikes). Anderson snapped his streak of six starts allowing no more than three earned runs with HV
  • Alex Vizcaíno: 1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 19 pitches (13 strikes). Vizcaíno’s road back from injury continues – this was his first appearance this year in which he did not walk a batter
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 30 pitches (20 strikes)
  • Sean Boyle: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (10 strikes). Boyle recorded his first High-A save with a scoreless ninth

Trevor Hauver (Photo by John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (48-23): The Tarpons jumped out to a 6-0 lead and easily dispatched Clearwater 8-3 to split the six-game series.

  • Star of the Game: Austin Wells – 2-for-4, 1 home run (9), 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. Wells has gotten a bit lost in the shuffle with the exploits of some of his current and former teammates, but the 2020 first-rounder is slugging .611 with four home runs this month
  • Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Trevor Hauver: 1-for-2, 1 home run (9), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks. Hauver made up the second part of a back-to-back with Wells in the second inning
  • Evan Alexander: 1-for-3, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts. The 23-year-old has a five game on-base streak and has lifted his batting average from .182 to .224 over that span
  • Luis Santos: 1-for-4, 2 RBI
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 55 pitches (42 strikes). Aside from the fourth-inning solo jack he served up, Munoz was efficient and successful
  • Nicio Rodriguez: 2.2 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 54 pitches (37 strikes). The 21-year-old 2018 signee made his full-season league debut
  • Edgar Barclay: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K, 48 pitches (29 strikes). We’re running out of ways to describe just how great Barclay has been in every single role he’s been asked to fill
