Pinstriped Performances: The Last Monday

As the sunlight wanes and Labor Day approaches, the FCL and DSL wrap up their regular seasons tomorrow, and Rookie Monday will go on hiatus until next June.

FCL Yankees (37-17): Amidst a flurry of late-season debuts for 2022 draft selections, the Yanks lost to the Blue Jays 5-2.

  • Star of the Game: Jesus Rodriguez – 2-for-3. Rodriguez’s 1.025 OPS in 36 games places him atop a lengthy list of young prospects who broke out at the FCL level this season
  • Dayro Perez: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts, 2 stolen bases
  • Agustin Ramirez: 1-for-3, 1 RBI

  • Nolberto Henriquez: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K
  • Kris Bow: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K. The 21-year-old from Nevada was this year’s 14th-round selection
  • Eric Reyzelman: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K. The fifth-round pick suffered the indignity of a blown save in his first pro appearance
  • Kevin Stevens: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K. Stevens, an undrafted rookie signed a month ago, took the loss in his pro debut
  • Cole Ayers: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

DSL Yankees (29-28): The Yankees blew a five-run lead in an 8-5 loss to playoff-bound Rangers Blue.

  • Star of the Game: Wilfrido Bido – 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 5 K. The 18-year-old with the rhyming name ends his rookie campaign having allowed just eight earned runs over 36 innings

  • Manuel Palencia: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 walk
  • Luis Urbano: 1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 1 K

  • Jordy Luciano: 2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 3 K

DSL Bombers (27-32): The Bombers fell behind 4-0 before rebounding with an eight-run sixth inning and holding on for a 10-6 win over Cubs Blue.

  • Star of the Game: Joel Mendez – 2-for-5, 1 home run (5), 1 double, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 2 strikeouts. Mostly quiet in June and July, Mendez has come on stronger in August, posting a .388 OPS
  • Fidel Montero: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Montero’s swiped bag was his 40th of the year
