Pinstriped Performances: The Silencers

Only Hudson Valley and Tampa took the field Wednesday night, and both teams witnessed sterling efforts from their hurlers.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (18-30): Scranton’s matchup with Lehigh Valley was rained out. The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday.

Somerset Patriots (29-16): Somerset and Binghamton will make up their rained-out game in a twin bill tomorrow.

Hudson Valley Renegades (21-25): Matt Sauer and a barrage of early offense led the ‘Gades to a dominant 7-0 win in Aberdeen.

  • Star of the Game: Matt Sauer – 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 88 pitches (56 strikes). After a somewhat rough start to the year, Sauer has given up just two earned runs and struck out 19 over his last three starts
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Trey Sweeney: 3-for-5, 1 home run (5), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Sweeney started June out on the right note following a quiet May
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-5, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts. Power has been the one element missing from Pereira’s game this year, so this is a good sign
  • Anthony Seigler: 3-for-5, 1 run scored
  • Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 K, 27 pitches (12 strikes)

Yon Castro (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (21-26): A four-headed beast of Tarpons pitching held Fort Myers to just three hits in a 2-1 win.

  • Star of the Game: Yon Castro – 5 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 80 pitches (49 strikes). Following a dud on May 18, Castro has put together two consecutive sparkling starts and lowered his ERA to 3.00 in the process
  • Alex Vargas: 1-for-4, 1 triple
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base
  • Grant Richardson: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts. Richardson drove in the winning run in the sixth
  • Kyle Battle: 1-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Enrique Santana: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (8 strikes)
  • Trevor Holloway: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K, 29 pitches (21 strikes)
  • Danny Watson: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K, 26 pitches (14 strikes). Watson earned his first save of the season
