Pinstriped Performances: This Is The Way

The baseball season is long, and just because things start tough doesn’t mean they’ll finish that way. Just ask Beck Way. There were 10 games across the system on Friday and plenty of action to unpack.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (50-33): The RailRiders fought back after going down 5-0, but couldn’t close the deal and slumped to a 6-4 loss to Lehigh Valley.

  • Star of the Game: Donny Sands – 1-for-4, 1 home run (5), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Sands continues to come through in the clutch, as his three-run blast in the seventh made it a one-run game. He’s now hitting .281 with Scranton
  • Greg Allen: 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Allen’s solo shot was his first for Scranton since June 18
  • Ryan LaMarre: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Braden Bristo: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 39 pitches (22 strikes)
  • Matt Krook: 5 IP, 2 H, 3 ER, 7 BB, 6 K, 91 pitches (48 strikes). Krook struggled badly with his control just one start after dominating for double-digit strikeouts
  • Adam Warren: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 14 pitches (9 strikes)
  • Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K

Somerset Patriots (52-35): There might not be a team in MiLB hotter than the Portland Sea Dogs right now, and the Patriots found themselves on the wrong end of a 4-1 score.

  • Star of the Game: Dermis Garcia – 1-for-2, 1 home run (23), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks. Garcia has withstood every assault against his system-leading home run mark, and he pulled away a little further in providing Somerset’s only offense of the night
  • Clint Frazier: 1-for-3, 1 walk. Frazier’s rehab begins in earnest with another full-season stop
  • Michael Beltre: 1-for-4, 1 double
  • Thomas Milone: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 strikeout
  • Luis Medina: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R (2 ER), 0 BB, 3 K, 82 pitches (51 strikes)
  • Nick Ernst: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 55 pitches (39 strikes)
  • Addison Russ: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 10 pitches (6 strikes)

Roberto Chirinos (Photo by John Brophy / Pinstriped Prospects)

Hudson Valley Renegades (55-33): Jersey Shore beat the Renegades 8-4 despite three more home runs from the power-happy home side.

  • Star of the Game: Roberto Chirinos – 3-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Chirinos hasn’t been fazed in the slightest by the quick jump to High-A. He’s 4-for-7 across his first two games
  • Anthony Volpe: 2-for-4, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Dermis Garcia is still well out in front, but Volpe kept the pressure on with a bomb of his own
  • Austin Wells: 2-for-4, 1 strikeout
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 1 home run (6), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
