Pinstriped Performances: Throwing Up Zeroes

Great pitching carried the evening for much of the system on Wednesday, as six out of seven total games ended with Yankee victories.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (56-50): A solid pitching performance and a clutch late homer helped the RailRiders keep up their winning ways with a 3-2 win over Worcester.

  • Star of the Game: Ronald Guzman – 1-for-3, 1 home run (8), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Guzman’s two-out, two-run home run in the eighth inning reversed a one-run deficit
  • Oswaldo Cabrera: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 strikeout
  • Jhony Brito: 5 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K, 77 pitches (52 strikes). Brito has put together four consecutive solid starts after only lasting 2.2 innings on July 16
  • Zach Greene: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 19 pitches (14 strikes)
  • Jimmy Cordero: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 15 pitches (8 strikes)
  • Ron Marinaccio: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 17 pitches (13 strikes). The Yankees’ young starlet contributed a win – his first of the year in Triple-A – to Scranton’s playoff push
  • Greg Weissert: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 20 pitches (11 strikes). Weissert pitched around a walk for his system-leading 15th save

Somerset Patriots (64-39): The Patriots had no trouble whatsoever with the hapless Yard Goats as they won 9-0, with each starter recording at least one hit.

  • Star of the Game: Jeisson Rosario – 3-for-5, 1 home run (8), 2 doubles, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored. Rosario, who pushed his OPS above .800 with this career performance, racked up eight total bases
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base. Volpe is up to 38 steals on the season
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 walk
  • Blake Perkins: 2-for-3, 1 home run (12), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Perkins’ power binge continues with his sixth home run in the last month
  • Clayton Beeter: 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 6 K, 37 pitches (25 strikes). The return in the Joey Gallo deal is off to an excellent start in pinstripes
  • Barrett Loseke: 3 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 32 pitches (23 strikes). Loseke moved to 7-2 with Wednesday’s win
  • Tanner Myatt: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 K, 38 pitches (23 strikes)
  • Steven Jennings: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (8 strikes)

Juan Carela (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Hudson Valley Renegades (56-47): The ‘Gades retained control over first place for the second half with a dominant 4-0 win over Aberdeen.

  • Star of the Game: Trey Sweeney – 1-for-3, 1 home run (12), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Sweeney is off to a somewhat slow start in August, hitting just .148
  • Jasson Dominguez: 2-for-3, 1 triple, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Juan Carela: 5.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 70 pitches (41 strikes). Carela got his first win at High-A, recovering nicely after a disastrous first start last week
  • Edgar Barclay: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 26 pitches (17 strikes)
  • Ryan Miller: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K, 7 pitches (5 strikes)

Madison Santos (John Brophy/Pinstriped Prospects)

Tampa Tarpons (50-52): The Tarpons got back on track with a 7-5 win over Dunedin that wasn’t as close as the score indicated.

  • Star of the Game: Tayler Aguilar – 2-for-4, 2 home runs (2), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored. Aguilar, this year’s 15th-round draft selection, hit a pair of two-out solo home runs in just his fourth-ever game
  • Madison Santos: 2-for-4, 1 home run (5), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Santos has recorded multiple hits in three out of his last four games
  • Raimfer Salinas: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 3 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Luis Santos: 1-for-3, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Yon Castro: 4.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K, 79 pitches (57 strikes)
  • Harold Cortijo: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches (22 strikes). Cortijo has a 3-1 record following the win
  • Danny Watson: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 2 K, 37 pitches (22 strikes)
  • Trevor Holloway: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 15 pitches (11 strikes). Fourth save of the season for Holloway

FCL Yankees (31-13): The Yanks and Phillies picked up Tuesday’s suspended game, with the Baby Bombers wrapping up an easy 9-3 win over their guests.

  • Star of the Game: Rafael Flores – 2-for-4, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored. The 21-year-old, signed three weeks ago out of junior college, went deep in his first professional game
  • Jesus Rodriguez: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk
  • Jake Palmer: 2-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 walk
  • Ronny Rojas: 1-for-2, 2 RBI
  • Luis Velasquez: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 3 K
  • Manny Ramirez: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K
  • Cole Ayers: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 3 K
  • Shaine McNeely: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K. McNeely got his second win
  • Carlos Rosario: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K
  • Nolberto Henriquez: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 0 K

DSL Yankees (23-25): The Yanks did what the big club couldn’t do, dispatching the Mariners 5-4.

  • Star of the Game: Juan Matheus – 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Matheus continues his strong rookie season during which he’s posted an .856 OPS
  • Manuel Palencia: 2-for-3, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 walk
  • Gabriel Bersing: 2-for-4, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Henry Lalane: 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 7 K. The All-Star has a 3-3 record and a 3.11 ERA
  • Wilfrido Bido: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Jan Pena: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K. Pena got his fifth save

DSL Bombers (24-25): The Bombers’ slide continued with a 5-1 loss to Pirates Gold.

  • Star of the Game: Enger Castellano – 1-for-2, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 walk. Castellano doubled home the Bombers’ only run in the first inning
  • John Cruz: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Oscar Silverio: 2-for-3
  • Geralmi Santana: 3 IP, 2 H, 4 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 4 K
