Pinstriped Performances: Thursday, July 25, 2019

On Thursday, 7 games were played in the New York Yankees organization with one affiliate (Trenton) playing a doubleheader. In total, the teams combined for a 3-4 record. Scranton Wilkes-Barre put up double-digit runs, Staten Island had a couple of players shine in their professional debuts and a pitcher put up a good rehab outing. Meanwhile, Trenton had a couple of players have good games at the plate in their doubleheader.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre Railriders (Triple-A): The Railriders (60-43) defeated the Columbus Clippers, 10-6.

  • Wendell Rijo: 2-for-5, 2 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run (3), 4 RBIs (6,7,8,9). Rijo hit a grand slam in the top of the fifth. 
  • Mike Ford: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 home run (21), 2 RBIs (55,56). Ford had a pinch-hit home run in the sixth. 
  • Cameron Maybin: 2-for-6, 1 double, 1 RBI (7). This was Maybin’s 3rd rehab games with the Railriders. 
  • Francisco Arcia: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 RBI (1).
  • Trey Amburgey: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 home run (17), 1 RBI (48). Amburgey has a 5-game hit streak and the 17 home runs are a new career-high in a single-season. 
  • Ryan McBroom: 2-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 double, 1 RBI (43).
  • Thairo Estrada: 2-for-6, 2 runs scored.
  • Tyler Wade: 3-for-5, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base. Wade is on a 5-game hit streak. 
  • Adonis Rosa (3-0): 5 IP, 0 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K. 54 of 86 pitches were strikes. 
  • Will Carter: 1.2 IP, 5 ER, 5 H, 2 BB. 30 of 50 pitches were strikes. 
  • David Sosebee: 2.1 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 2 K. 22 of 37 pitches were strikes. 

Trenton Thunder (Double-A): The Thunder (54-47) lost both games of their doubleheader against the Erie Seawolves. They lost Game 1, 9-8, and Game 2, 5-1.

  • Gosuke Katoh: 4-for-4, 2 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 RBI (7). Spenser Smith, who is a broadcaster for Trenton, had this great stat on Katoh’s day:

  • Mandy Alvarez: 2-for-4. Alvarez is on a 5-game hit streak. 
  • Gosuke Katoh: 2-for-3.
  • Kyle Holder: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 double.
  • Ben Ruta: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 double.
  • Kellin Deglan: 1-for-4, 1 stolen base.
  • Isiah Gilliam: 0-for-1, 2 walks.
  • Brandon Wagner: 0-for-3, 1 walk.
  • Janson Junk (0-1): 4.2 IP, 4 ER, 4 H, 5 BB, 3 K. 58 of 98 pitches were strikes. Junk was making his Double-A debut after being promoted from Tampa on Thursday. 
  • Braden Bristo: 1.1 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 4 K. 14 of 20 pitches were strikes. 

Tampa Tarpons (Single-A Advanced): The Tarpons (44-57) had their game against the Jupiter Hammerheads postponed. They will makeup the game as part of a doubleheader on Friday. According to play-by-play announcer Nick Flammia, Luis Gil will start Game 2 for the Tarpons in his High-A debut:

Charleston Riverdogs (Single-A): The Riverdogs (51-53) defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws, 4-3.

  • Eric Wagaman: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 double, 1 RBI (17).
  • Oliver Dunn: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base, 1 RBI (6). Dunn has a 4-game hit streak and an RBI in 4 straight games. 
  • Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, 1 stolen base, 1 RBI (44).
  • Josh Stowers: 1-for-3, 1 walk, 1 RBI (24), 1 stolen base.
  • Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base.
  • Canaan Smith: 1-for-4, 1 run scored.
  • Mickey Gasper: 0-for-3, 1 walk.

Staten Island Yankees (Short-Season): The Yankees (19-19) defeated the Connecticut Tigers, 8-1.

  • Evan Alexander: 2-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 RBI (7).
  • Josh Smith: 2-for-2, 2 walks, 1 RBI (1). Smith was the Yankees’ 2nd Round pick in last month’s draft and he made his professional debut. 
  • Jake Sanford: 1-for-5, 1 run scored, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI (6). The Yankees’ 3rd Round pick in last month’s draft hit his first professional home run. 
  • Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-6, 1 run scored, 1 RBI (24).
  • Juan De Leon: 3-for-5, 1 run scored, 1 double.
  • Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored.
  • Pat DeMarco: 1-for-4, 1 run scored. The Yankees’ 17th round pick in last month’s draft was making his professional debut. 
  • Andres Chaparro: 1-for-5. Chaparro is on a 4-game hit streak and is hitting .311 in 21 games this month. 
  • Michael King: 4 IP, 0 ER, 4 H. 38 of 56 pitches were strikes. King was making his 4th rehab start and his first one with Staten Island. He recorded 5 groundball outs on the 13 batters he faced. 
  • Jake Agnos (1-1): 3 IP, 1 ER, 3 H, 2 K. 27 of 39 pitches were strikes. 
  • Derek Craft: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 3 K. 17 of 25 pitches were strikes.

Pulaski Yankees (Rookie-Advanced): The Yankees (22-13) lost 7-2 to the Bluefield Blue Jays.

  • Chad Bell: 2-for-4, 2 RBIs (21,22).
  • Madison Santos: 2-for-4, 1 walk.
  • Antonio Cabello: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Cabello is on a 4-game hit streak. 
  • Ryder Green: 1-for-3, 1 run scored, 1 walk. Green has a 4-game hit streak. 
  • Borinquen Mendez: 1-for-3, 1 walk.
  • Anthony Volpe: 0-for-2, 1 walk.
  • Leonardo Pestana (0-3): 1.1 IP, 7 ER, 6 H, 3 K. 24 of 35 pitches were strikes. 
  • Sean Boyle: 3.2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K. 25 of 42 pitches were strikes. Boyle has 19 strikeouts to 3 walks in 8 outings this year.

Gulf Coast League (Rookie): The West squad (10-13) had their game against GCL Phillies East postponed. The East (8-14) also had their game against GCL Tigers West postponed. Both will makeup their games on August 2.

Dominican Summer League (Rookie): The DSL Yankees (19-22) were defeated by the DSL Twins, 5-2.
