Pinstriped Performances: Title Hangover

The peril of a system in which you can clinch a postseason berth in June is that the rest of the season doesn’t mean very much, and the Patriots have played like that’s the case so far this week. Meanwhile, it might be too late for the RailRiders, but they’ve quietly won seven of 10.

Estevan Florial (Chris Jones)

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (32-42): Estevan Florial homered for the second consecutive game and the RailRiders won another one over Buffalo, 5-3.

  • Star of the Game: Estevan Florial – 2-for-3, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 3 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 stolen bases. Florial’s average is up to .293 and he’s swiped 25 bags as he makes his case to help plug the Yankees’ outfield holes
  • Oswald Peraza: 2-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Miguel Andujar: 3-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI
  • Ken Waldichuk: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K, 96 pitches (60 strikes). Waldichuk’s control has failed him a bit this month, as he’s walked 11 in five starts
  • Braden Bristo: 2.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 44 pitches (23 strikes). Bristo was the winning pitcher
  • Jimmy Cordero: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 19 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Shane Greene: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 19 pitches (13 strikes). Greene gave up a run but held on to earn his first save

Somerset Patriots (44-27): Somerset lost to Reading 4-2 and will look to turn things around following two straight defeats upon being crowned first half champions.

  • Star of the Game: Elijah Dunham – 1-for-4, 1 home run (9), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Dunham has hit safely in eight of nine games
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-4, 1 stolen base
  • Jesus Bastidas: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
  • Sean Boyle: 6 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 5 K, 83 pitches (51 strikes). Boyle recorded a quality start but got no run support, and continues to be bitten by the long ball – he’s surrendered 13 this season after giving up just four all of last year
  • Nick Ernst: 1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 1 K, 22 pitches (13 strikes)
  • Tanner Myatt: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 19 pitches (11 strikes)

  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Pereira’s double broke the 5-5 deadlock
  • Anthony Seigler: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Aldenis Sanchez: 2-for-4, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases

  • Ryan Miller: 1.2 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 0 K, 21 pitches (16 strikes). Miller was assessed a blown save for giving up the tying run in the seventh, but then became the beneficiary of HV’s rally in the bottom of the inning and earned a win
  • Nelson L. Alvarez: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 27 pitches (17 strikes). Alvarez picked up his second save
