Pinstriped Performances: Tuesday, August 13, 2019

On Tuesday, 8 affiliates were in action in the New York Yankees organization and those teams combined for a 5-3 record. There were two walk-offs in the organization out in Charleston and Staten Island. Charleston got a dominant outing from its starter and Pulaski had another shutout victory. Meanwhile, there was a 3-hit performance in Tampa, a Scranton Wilkes-Barre player reached 20 home runs, and a Trenton player homered off of a Major League pitcher on a rehab assignment.

Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A): The Railriders (65-55) lost to the Charlotte Knights, 15-1.

Charleston Riverdogs (Single-A): The Riverdogs (63-58) defeated the Columbia Fireflies, 1-0.

  • Eric Wagaman: 1-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI (29). Wagaman had the walk-off double in the bottom of the 9th. 
  • Brandon Lockridge: 1-for-4, 1 double. Lockridge has 30 doubles on the season. 
  • Welfrin Mateo: 1-for-3.
  • Eduardo Navas: 1-for-3.
  • Luis Medina: 7 IP, 0 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 10 K. 58 of 91 pitches were strikes. Medina had 10 strikeouts for the 3rd time in his last 6 starts and has 7+ strikeouts in 6 straight starts. His 115 K’s are tied for 6th in the South Atlantic League.

  • Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-4, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 home run (11), 1 RBI (33). Duran’s home run to tie the game in the 7th went 100 miles-per-hour off the bat. 
  • Mitchell Robinson: 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI (9). Robinson had 3 RBIs in the 3-game series against the Cyclones.

“It’s just been a matter of time. He’s a guy that continues to put in the work. He works hard and has a lot of confidence and I don’t think he’s deterred my much. He’s focused and works hard day in and day out,” said Adams about Robinson.

  • Josh Smith: 2-for-3, 1 run scored, 3 walks, 1 RBI (12). The 2nd Round pick from this year’s draft has a hit in 7 straight games.

“He’s a competitor. He shows up, he’s a gamer, you know what you are going to get day in and day out. You are going to get his best. He’s a very smart, intelligent player, knows the game and plays the game the right way,” said manager David Adams about Smith.

  • Andres Chaparro: 1-for-4, 1 RBI (13).
  • Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-4, 1 walk. Narvaez is on a 6-game hit streak. 
  • Luis Santos: 1-for-4.
  • Isaiah Pasteur: 0-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 stolen base.
  • Alex Mejias: 4 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K. 43 of 63 pitches were strikes. The 63 pitches were a season-high for Mejias. 
  • Bryan Blanton: 2 IP, 1 ER, 1 H, 1 BB, 4 K. 23 of 40 pitches were strikes. Blanton has 20 strikeouts in his last 4 appearances and has held opponents to a .115 batting average this season. 
  • Barrett Loseke: 2.2 IP, 1 ER, 2 H, 1 BB, 4 K. 22 of 41 pitches were strikes. The 17th Round pick from 2018 has 28 strikeouts to 3 walks in 22.1 innings this year and it is the 3rd time this year he has struck out 4 batters in an appearance. 
  • Justin Wilson (1-3): 2.1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 BB, 3 K. 20 of 35 pitches were strikes. 

The 3 relievers combined to go the final 7 innings of the game as they struck out 11 batters while only walking 3.

“These guys always want to be on the mound. They want to throw more. We are the ones that have to tell them no. It’s a testament to their will, their dedication, their desire, and they always want to be on the mound,” said Adams about the relievers.

Pulaski Yankees (Rookie-Advanced): The Yankees (36-17) defeated the Elizabethton Twins, 1-0 in 8 innings.

  • Ryder Green: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 double, 1 stolen base. Green has 12 doubles this year. 
  • Robert Javier: 1-for-3.
  • Leonardo Pestana (1-3): 5 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 3 K. 42 of 71 pitches were strikes. The 5 innings is the most Pestana has gone in an outing this year. 
  • Kevin Milam: 2 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K. 13 of 27 pitches were strikes. The 14th Round pick in this year’s draft was promoted to Pulaski from the Gulf Coast League on Monday. 
  • Mitch Spence (4th save): 1 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 1 K. 7 of 10 pitches were strikes. The 10th Round pick in this year’s draft has 21 strikeouts to 2 walks in 21.1 innings of work. 

Gulf Coast League (Rookie): The West (18-20) lost 6-5 in 10 innings to GCL Tigers East.

Dominican Summer League (Rookie): The DSL Yankees (26-29) defeated DSL Mets 1, 8-6.
