Pinstriped Performances: Turning Over A New Leaf

It’s over! Scranton’s longest losing streak in their years as a Yankees affiliate has come to an end, on a night where all four of the full-season teams emerged the victors.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (60-46): Matt Krook held it down and the lineup came through to deliver Scranton its first win in more than a week, 4-1 over Rochester.

  • Star of the Game: Matt Krook – 6 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 5 K, 86 pitches (59 strikes). Krook is on a dynamite run of three straight starts with one or fewer earned runs allowed
  • Chris Gittens: 2-for-4, 1 home run (11), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Gittens went deep in the seventh to lengthen Scranton’s lead
  • Donny Sands: 1-for-4, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Trey Amburgey: 2-for-3, 1 walk
  • Michael King: 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 K, 41 pitches (30 strikes). King’s multi-inning effort earned him the save

Somerset Patriots (64-44): Not unlike Scranton, the Patriots won a 4-1 decision over Hartford thanks to great pitching and a few timely hits.

  • Star of the Game: Ken Waldichuk – 5 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 82 pitches (61 strikes). Waldichuk’s implosion on August 31 looks like it was just a blip on the radar in a string of good-to-great starts that dates back to the beginning of July
  • Brandon Lockridge: 2-for-4, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 run scored
  • Michael Beltre: 1-for-4, 1 home run (15), 2 RBI, 1 run scored. Beltre’s sixth-inning home run broke a 1-1 tie
  • Dermis Garcia: 2-for-4, 1 stolen base
  • Jesus Bastidas: 2-for-3, 1 run scored
  • Jason Lopez: 2-for-3, 1 strikeout
  • Sean Boyle: 2 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 25 pitches (18 strikes). Boyle earned the win
  • Kevin Gadea: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 3 K, 19 pitches (12 strikes)
  • Barrett Loseke: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 20 pitches (12 strikes). Loseke recorded his second save

Hudson Valley Renegades (65-43): Everson Pereira now has four homers in his last two games and the Renegades kept rolling along with a 7-6 win over Brooklyn.

  • Star of the Game: Everson Pereira – 1-for-5, 1 home run (10), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Pereira’s bomb in the fifth inning helped bring the ‘Gades back from an early 4-0 deficit
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 stolen base
  • Austin Wells: 2-for-3, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
  • Carlos Narvaez: 1-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored
  • Eduardo Torrealba: 3-for-4, 1 run scored
  • Matt Sauer: 6 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 9 K, 83 pitches (58 strikes). Sauer has struck out 16 in his last two starts
  • Charlie Ruegger: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 29 pitches (20 strikes)
  • Derek Craft: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 18 pitches (10 strikes). Craft picked up his ninth save

Tampa Tarpons (71-36): Tampa fell in an early 5-0 hole but dug out of it to upend the Dunedin Blue Jays 6-5.

  • Star of the Game: Trey Sweeney – 2-for-5, 1 home run (6), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Sweeney’s solo shot in the sixth proved to be the winning run
  • Jasson Dominguez: 1-for-4, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Antonio Gomez: 2-for-4, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Cooper Bowman: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Madison Santos: 1-for-2, 1 RBI, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Tyrone Yulie: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 5 ER, 5 BB, 9 K, 82 pitches (45 strikes). After giving up three walks and two home runs, a leadoff shot and a grand slam, in the first inning, Yulie settled down and allowed just two more hits the rest of the way
  • Clay Aguilar: 4.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 3 K, 59 pitches (36 strikes). Aguilar earned a win for his superb relief effort

FCL Yankees (29-14): Both legs of the Yanks’ doubleheader against the Blue Jays were rained out.

DSL Yankees 1 (20-19): The Yanks fell to Colorado 6-4.

  • Star of the Game: Christopher Familia – 3-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI, 1 stolen base. Familia is on a roll this month hitting .316
  • Hans Montero: 3-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base
  • Felix Negueis: 2-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 stolen base
  • Oscar Silverio: 1-for-4, 1 home run (3), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Daniel Guerrero: 3 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 1 BB, 3 K
  • Miguel Vargas: 5 IP, 9 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 2 K
  • Lester Beltran: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

DSL Yankees 2 (19-20): The Yankees could not keep Diamondbacks 2 off the scoreboard and slumped to an 11-5 loss.

  • Star of the Game: Nelson Medina – 2-for-3, 1 double, 3 RBI, 1 walk. Medina’s OPS is .836 on the season
  • Dayro Perez: 1-for-4, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base
  • Omar Martinez: 1-for-2, 2 runs scored, 2 walks
  • Alex Garcia: 1-for-1, 1 triple, 1 RBI
  • Osmany Fleitas: 2-for-2, 1 RBI, 1 walk
