Pinstriped Performances: Waldichuk, Bats Lead Patriots To Rout

Somerset stole the show on Saturday night, and the Renegades rallied late for their first win of the season.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (4-1): The RailRiders suffered their first loss of the season in walk-off fashion, 4-3 in 10 innings.

  • Star of the Game: Oswald Peraza – 4-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout. Peraza briefly brought Scranton back from the dead, singling home the tying run with two outs in the top of the ninth
  • Estevan Florial: 2-for-5, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Miguel Andujar: 2-for-4, 1 run scored
  • Luis Gil: 3.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 5 K, 66 pitches (42 strikes). Gil had putaway stuff, with his only real blemish a solo home run surrendered in the first
  • Trevor Lane: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 1 K, 22 pitches (10 strikes)
  • Braden Bristo: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 32 pitches (18 strikes)
  • Zach Greene: 2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 1 K, 31 pitches (18 strikes)
  • Shelby Miller: 0.2 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 0 BB, 1 K, 13 pitches (8 strikes). Miller took a hard-luck loss, as the game’s winning run sourced from the automatic runner and scored on an error

Somerset Patriots (2-0): Ken Waldichuk threw a gem and the Patriots jumped all over Reading, taking an 8-0 lead en route to an 11-2 win.

  • Star of the Game: Oliver Dunn – 3-for-3, 3 doubles, 3 RBI. Dunn had a tough 2021, hitting a combined .196 across two levels, but he’s off to the fastest of starts this season
  • Pitching Star of the Game: Ken Waldichuk – 5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K, 64 pitches (39 strikes). Waldichuk broke out with 163 strikeouts in 110 innings last season and looks set to build upon those results
  • Anthony Volpe: 1-for-6, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
  • Elijah Dunham: 2-for-5, 1 triple, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts
  • Josh Breaux: 2-for-5, 1 home run (2), 4 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Breaux is off to a fast start with 6 RBI already
  • Andres Chaparro: 3-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 walk
  • Chad Bell: 2-for-5, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout
  • Rodolfo Duran: 3-for-5, 1 home run (1), 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 strikeout. Duran was signed in December after spending his entire career in the Phillies system
  • Nick Ernst: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 45 pitches (26 strikes)
  • Carlos Espinal: 1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches (20 strikes)
  • Kyle Zurak: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 17 pitches (10 strikes)

Aldenis Sanchez (John Brophy / Pinstriped Prospects)

Hudson Valley Renegades (1-1): A dramatic two-out rally in the ninth sent the game to extras, and Hudson Valley blew it open in the 10th as they defeated Greenville 8-4.

  • Star of the Game: Aldenis Sanchez – 2-for-4, 2 RBI, 1 walk, 2 strikeouts, 1 stolen base. Sanchez came through in the top of the ninth with a two-out RBI single to tie the game, and also contributed to the tenth-inning onslaught with another hit
  • Trey Sweeney: 1-for-6, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Sweeney’s single in the 10th scored the automatic runner to start the knockout punch
  • Everson Pereira: 1-for-4, 2 runs scored, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 2 stolen bases
  • TJ Rumfield: 1-for-4, 1 home run (1), 3 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks. Rumfield, brought over from the Phillies system in the Nick Nelson/Donny Sands trade, went yard for the first time as a Yankee prospect
  • Eduardo Torrealba: 3-for-5, 1 double, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout
  • Beck Way: 4.1 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 7 K, 72 pitches (46 strikes)
  • Tanner Myatt: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 2 K, 38 pitches (18 strikes)
  • Jhonatan Munoz: 2.1 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 33 pitches (23 strikes)
  • Alex Mauricio: 1.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 1 K, 37 pitches (19 strikes)
  • Bryan Blanton: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 6 pitches (4 strikes)

Tampa Tarpons (1-1): Tampa’s offense was largely silenced in a 5-1 defeat to the Flying Tigers.

  • Star of the Game: Marcos Cabrera – 2-for-4, 1 home run (2), 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Cabrera has two home runs, but tonight’s was of the inside-the-park variety
  • Jasson Dominguez: 0-for-4, 1 strikeout
  • Madison Santos: 1-for-2, 2 walks, 1 strikeout, 1 stolen base
  • Josue Panacual: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 6 K, 59 pitches (37 strikes)
  • Carlos Gomez: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K, 44 pitches (32 strikes)
  • Jack Neely: 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 K, 22 pitches (12 strikes)
