Pinstriped Performances: Wild Night At Dutchess

Hudson Valley overcame a five-run deficit in the bottom of the 11th inning to score an improbable walk-off win. The RailRiders saw their winning streak slip away, while Somerset split a twin bill and the Florida summer rains delayed more Tarpons action.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (29-12): What a heartbreaking way for the eight-game winning streak to end. The RailRiders gave up a one-run lead in the bottom of the eighth and then lost in the 12th, 3-2 to the IronPigs.

Somerset Patriots (28-15): Behind a shaky Luis Medina, Somerset dropped the first game of the doubleheader 5-3 before recovering to trounce Portland 11-3 in the nightcap.

• Star of the Game: Diego Castillo – 2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 run scored, 1 strikeout. Castillo has cooled off a bit after a searing stretch last week when he went 9-for-13
• Oswald Peraza: 1-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBI, 3 strikeouts
• Michael Beltre: 1-for-3, 1 home run (7), 1 RBI, 1 run scored. Beltre’s solo shot in the fourth gave the Patriots a 4-1 lead
• Isiah Gilliam: 2-for-2, 1 run scored, 1 walk
• Luis Medina: 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 6 BB, 5 K, 95 pitches (51 strikes). Medina has an unimpressive 7.20 ERA across two Double-A starts
• Addison Russ: 1.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 K, 27 pitches (14 strikes)

Game 2

• Star of the Game: Michael Beltre – 2-for-4, 1 triple, 3 RBI, 2 runs scored. There were many offensive contributors in this one, but Beltre led the team in total bases and drove in two big runs in the third, adding another RBI on his triple in the fifth
• Pitching Star of the Game: Ken Waldichuk – 5.1 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 10 K, 95 pitches (56 strikes). Waldichuk’s second effort went much better than his first as he cruised through the Sea Dogs lineup, allowing his only two hits in his last inning of work
• Diego Castillo: 2-for-5, 1 double, 2 RBI, 1 run scored
• Oswald Peraza: 0-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
• Oswaldo Cabrera: 1-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk

Hudson Valley Renegades (27-16): The Dutchess Stadium fans who stuck this one out until the end got their money’s worth and a whole lot more. After falling behind 8-3 in the top of the 11th inning, the Renegades pushed across six in the bottom and won the game 9-8 on a clutch two-run double from Anthony Seigler.

• Star of the Game: Anthony Seigler – 2-for-5, 2 doubles, 2 RBI, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Seigler, the Yankees’ first-round draft pick in 2018, hadn’t received the Star of the Game award all year long during a very slow start. On Wednesday night, he delivered a signature performance. With the bases loaded, one out, and the Renegades down by one in the 11th, Seigler roped an RBI double to left to score the tying and winning runs
• Ezequiel Duran: 1-for-5, 1 home run (7), 2 RBI, 2 runs scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout. Before the chaos broke out, Duran’s sixth-inning homer gave HV a 3-1 lead
• James Nelson: 2-for-5, 1 run scored, 2 strikeouts
• Chad Bell: 1-for-3, 1 RBI, 1 run scored, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts. Bell was a key part of the 11th-inning rally. His single scored Nelson for the inning’s first run
• Shawn Semple: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 73 pitches (47 strikes). Semple has delivered two strong outings since being sent down to High-A
• Nick Ernst: 2 IP, 1 H, 2 R (1 ER), 1 BB, 0 K, 30 pitches (18 strikes)
• Jefry Valdez: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 5 R (4 ER), 1 BB, 2 K, 47 pitches (34 strikes). Valdez was, unfortunately, the chief architect of the madness in the top of the 11th. But his teammates got him off the hook
• Charlie Ruegger: 0.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 0 K, 11 pitches (5 strikes). Ruegger was called upon for mop-up duty in what looked like garbage time, but ended up getting a win after the comeback

Tampa Tarpons (29-14): The Tarpons were able to finish their suspended game from Tuesday, winning it 4-3. They were scheduled for an encore against Lakeland, but the second game was postponed due to rain and the two teams will try another doubleheader tomorrow.

• Star of the Game: Michael Giacone – 4 IP, 3 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 6 K, 54 pitches (35 strikes). Giacone, a 28th-round pick two years ago, has quietly racked up five wins on the season, all in relief
• Anthony Volpe: 0-for-4, 1 RBI, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
• Austin Wells: 0-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk, 1 strikeout
• Trevor Hauver: 3-for-4, 1 run scored, 1 walk. The struggling Hauver is batting .268
• Andres Chaparro: 2-for-5, 1 double, 1 RBI, 1 strikeout
• Eric Wagaman: 2-for-4, 1 triple, 1 double, 1 run scored
• Yoendrys Gómez: 1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K, 16 pitches (12 strikes)
