The Yankees affiliates began the month of June with a combined record of 2-2. Somerset will probably be the lead story tonight with a Yankees reliever making another rehab appearance, but Tampa searches for their 19th win of the season and Scranton Wilkes-Barre will have another former Yankee reliever on the mound, who is quietly having a good season. In the series opener on Tuesday night, the RailRiders were held to only five hits in a 5-2 loss to the IronPigs. Tonight, they hand the ball to veteran Adam Warren, who will unofficially be making his second start for Scranton Wilkes-Barre this season.
The 33-year-old ended up starting the resumed game on May 26 against Buffalo after the May 25 game was suspended due to rain. He walked two batters and struck out three over three hitless innings on 45 pitches (28 strikes) in a win.
Through the first 10 innings of the season, Warren has averaged a strikeout per inning and has allowed only one run. Plus, he has struck out two or more batters in four of his six appearances. It would not be surprising if Warren was able to go three innings tonight if he is able to keep his pitch count down.
The IronPigs will start Medina in this game, who is one of the top pitching prospects in the Phillies organization. In his first five starts of the season, the 24-year-old right-hander has a 5.23 ERA and has struck out 15 batters to 6 walks over 20.2 innings of work.
In his last start against Worcester on May 27, Medina picked up his first loss of the season. He went 2.2 innings, allowed five runs (one earned) on five hits, walked a pair of batters, and struck out one on 51 pitches (32 strikes).
Medina faced the RailRiders on May 15. He went five innings, allowed three runs on five hits, walked two, and struck out two in a victory. That one home run was a two-run shot by Chris Gittens in the bottom of the fifth.
In a loss last night, Armando Alvarez had his fourth multi-hit game in his last seven games as he went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs to give him 10 on the season.

Reading Fightin’ Phils (4-21) vs. Somerset Patriots (17-7)

The Patriots brought the long ball to the ballpark on Tuesday night. The team hit five home runs including two each from Dermis Garcia (9 on the year) and Donny Sands. As for the piutching, J.P. Sears and Janson Junk combined to allow an unearned run on four hits, walk 3 (all by Junk), and they struck out 15.
Zack Britton will start tonight’s game in what will be his second rehab appearance for the Patriots. Briitton faced New Hampshire on May 29 and allowed one hit in a scoreless first inning (10 of 18 pitches for strikes). When Britton’s night is over, he is scheduled to be followed by Glenn Otto.
Otto had his shortest outing of the season in his last start against New Hampshire on May 27. He went 4.2 innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked three (season-high), and struck out seven on 92 pitches (56 strikes) in a no-decision. After allowing a two-run home run in the top of the first, Otto was able to limit the damage.
The 25-year-old right-hander has at least six strikeouts in each of his first four games and the signs point toward that possibly happening again tonight. Reading has lost four in a row and they have a team batting average of .196 despite having the seventh most strikeouts in the Double-A Northeast (245).
As for Reading, they will go with Taylor Lehman in this game. The 25-year-old southpaw was selected in the 34th Round of the 2017 MLB Draft by the Miami Marlins, but elected to go back to Penn State and ended up going undrafted.
The Phillies signed him in 2018 and he has been in the organization ever since. In his first four appearances of the season, he has not gone more than 3.1 innings in any game. In his last start against Richmond on May 27, he went 3.1 innings, allowed two runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out five on 64 pitches (37 strikes) in a no-decision.

Hudson Valley Renegades (13-11) vs. Wilmington Blue Rocks (13-12)

As this article was written, no starters were announced for this game, so keep in mind these are just guesses on who will start. Hudson Valley began its 12-game road trip Tuesday night with a 4-1 loss to the Blue Rocks. While Oswald Peraza drove in his 14th run of the season, the Renegades only had four hits.
On the mound, Jhony Brito had a strong outing. He allowed three unearned runs on two hits, walked one, and struck out five over five innings in a loss. Four Renegades pitchers combined to strike out 11 Blue Rocks pitchers in the defeat.
If the Renegades stay on turn, the start would go to Luis Medina. Medina battled some command issues on May 26 against Jersey Shore as he walked three batters and hit one. However, he was able to limit the damage. The 22-year-old right-hander went 4.1 innings, allowed one run on three hits and struck out seven in addition to the three walks. 46 of his 80 pitches were for strikes.
Despite walking two or more hitters in each of his first five starts, Medina has at least six strikeouts in all of them and has seven or more in four of them. Tonight, if he takes the mound, he faces a Blue Rocks squad that has the fourth-fewest strikeouts in the High-A East (244).
The Blue Rocks will go with Tyler Dyson in this game. Dyson was selected in the 5th Round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Washington Nationals. His last start came on May 27 against Greensboro. In that game, he walked three batters and struck out three over five hitless innings (39 of 66 pitches for strikes).
While Dyson does have a low ERA to begin the season, he does have 11 walks over the course of 18.1 innings and he has hit at least one batter in four of his five outings.

Lakeland Flying Tigers (12-13) vs. Tampa Tarpons (18-7)

LHP Adam Wolf (2-1, 3.21 ERA) vs. RHP Yoendrys Gomez (2021 debut)
The Tarpons continue to find ways to pick up wins. Tuesday night, Josh Smith hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh that broke a 3-3 tie. Smith has recorded at least one hit in all six games he has played since joining Tampa.
As of right now, the Tarpons do not have a starter listed for tonight’s game as they look for their third win in a row and their fourth in a row against Lakeland. The starter they will face is left-hander Adam Wolf.
Wolf’s last start came against Fort Myers on May 27. He went four innings, allowed an unearned run on three hits, walked three and struck out three on 74 pitches (45 strikes) in a no-decision. It’s been hard for teams to get many hits against Wolf as he has allowed three hits in three of his last four starts and has only allowed one home run on the entire season.
The Tarpons faced Wolf back on May 15 and they ended up getting the win against him. In that game, Wolf went three innings, allowed two runs on three hits, walked a batter, and struck out five on 55 pitches (37 strikes).
The lefty did not allow a run in the first three innings. However, a Jake Sanford double and Andres Chaparro walk in the top of the fourth got Wolf out of the game and both of them eventually came around to score. In that game, Sanford had two of the three hits against Wolf and the outfielder has had a hit in 9 of the last 10 games he has played.
