PULASKI, Va. – The Pulaski Yankees (37-21) got off to a quick start and held off the Elizabethton Twins (30-27) for a 4-3 Appalachian League victory before 2,118 fans at Calfee Park Saturday night.
The win was the Yankees’ ninth 9th in a row, their 24th in 32 home games and built their first-place advantage in the Appalachian Conference East to four games over the Princeton Rays.
Designated hitter Austin Afenir had three hits and RBI snd first baseman Kane Sweeney two hits and a pair of RBIs as the Yankees scored three times in the bottom of the first and once in the bottom of the third to carve a 4-0 lead.
Right-hander Melvin Morla notched his fourth win in six decisions.
The Yankees welcome the Bluefield Blue Jays to start the final three-game, regular-season series at Calfee Park at 7 p.m. Sunday.
