DANVILLE, Va. – Third baseman Allen Vekerio and shortstop Jose Javier each homered as the Pulaski Yankees (26-20) notched an 8-2 Appalachian League win over the Danville Braves (20-24) before 502 fans at American Legion Field at Dan Daniel Park Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Yankees took both the series in Danville and moved to within a game of the first-place Princeton Rays in the Appalachian League East. Pulaski also has the second-best record in the Rookie Advanced circuit after the Rays.
Right-hander David Palladno picked up his third win in as many decisions with six solid innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, striking out seven and walking one.
The Yankees will finish their road trip at Bluefield, playing the Blue Jays at 7 p,m. Monday. They will then welcome the Blue Jays to Calfee Park Tuesday and Wednesday in the start of a homestand also featuring the Greeneville Astros visiting Thursday thru Saturday.
