PULASKI, Va. – Four Pulaski errors, along with impressive Bluefield pitching, ended the Yankees’ (37-22) win streak at nine Sunday night before 2,317 fans at Calfee Park with 1-0, rain-delayed victory.
The Blue Jays (22-36) scored the game’s lone run in the sixth inning. Lefty Nestor Cortes (5-3) allowed that unearned tally without surrendering a hit. He struck out nine and walked nobody. Cortes’ record dropped to 503, his ERA to 2.34 over 52.2 innings. It was just the seventh road win in 31 starts for the Blue Jays.
The Yankees, who retained a four-game lead in the Appalachian League East, meet Bluefield again at 7 Monday night at Calfee Park.
Pulaski is about to nail down a playoff spot. The top two teams in each division meet in a best-of-three series, with the winners of those divisional playoffs meeting in a best-of-rhree set for the Appalachian League title.
