The Yankees announced in a statement on Sunday that they have extended a qualifying offer to DJ LeMahieu, which per Bryan Hoch, is valued at $18.9 million for one year.
By extending LeMahieu a qualifying offer, the Yankees guarantee that they will receive draft compensation if he chooses to elect free agency.
LeMahieu, who led the major leagues in batting in 2020, is unlikely to accept that offer as he is expected to seek a multiyear contract and has earned over $24 million the past two seasons.
In 2020, LeMahieu was 71-195, with 10 home runs, 41 runs scored, and 27 RBI’s. He had a .364 batting average, and led the league in on-base percentage as well with a .421 OBP. He had a 1.011 OPS.
LeMahieu stated in September that he hopes to stay in New York in 2021, but it is expected that he will request a multiyear contract.
