RailRiders Among Baseball America’s “Best of the Minors”

Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple A/New York Yankees) are proud to announce that the team’s Glow in the Dark jersey promotion and its broadcast duo of John Sadak and Darren Headrick received votes in Baseball America’s first “Best of the Minors” survey released on Tuesday.

“The RailRider faithful and Yankees fans get the treat of hearing John and Darren bring excitement over the airwaves all season long,” said Josh Olerud, RailRiders chief operating officer.  “The talent here in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is unmatched and we take pride in having the best tandem in Minor League Baseball.”

“Having watched them all last season, I have a deep appreciation for the hard work that John and Darren put into every broadcast,” said RailRiders General Manager Jeremy Ruby. “Our marketing and promotions team put a lot of effort into this year’s schedule, too. We believe fans will really enjoy the uniforms and ‘Glow in the Park Night’ at PNC Field.”

SWB players and coaches will don special glow in the dark uniforms for eight Friday night games at PNC Field this summer as part of their Glow in the Park Night. Fans will be treated to post-game fireworks as well.

Sadak enters his fourth season as the Director of Broadcasting for, and play-by-play voice of, the RailRiders. His career spans well over a decade in professional baseball. The 37-year-old also broadcasts the national play-by-play for Westwood One Radio, CBS Sports Network, FOX Sports and the ESPN family of networks. Sadak, a graduate of Rowan University, served as play-by-play announcer for the National Football League during the fall and was also named Westwood One’s voice of the NCAA Women’s Final Four in 2015.

A native of Maryville, Tenn., Headrick begins his second year as part of the RailRiders’ broadcast team and third overall in Triple-A. Besides spending 10 years in professional baseball, the 30-year-old has announced women’s basketball games for schools such as North Carolina State University, University of Alabama and North Carolina Central University. Headrick became one of the play-by-play announcers for the SEC Network+ in 2015.

Each year Baseball America publishes its “Best Tools” awards, an annual survey of managers and coaches that aims to identify the most talented players in each full-season league. For this season, the publication added a new survey and asked broadcasters and executives to identify some of the best parts of the minor league atmosphere.

A capacity crowd will be on hand for Opening Night on Thursday, April 7, when the defending 2015 International League Champion RailRiders begin their 2016 campaign against the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins).
