RailRiders Knocked Off Track by Gwinnett

MOOSIC, PA –  The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) lost the lid-lifter of a three-game set 7-1 to the Gwinnett Braves on Friday night at PNC Field. The RailRiders (39-30) dropped consecutive games for the first time since suffering back-to-back defeats June 5-6. The Braves (31-37) snapped a three-game losing skid.

Kyle Haynes (1-2) shouldered the loss after allowing three runs on six hits over 4.2 innings. The right-hander walked three and struck out four. Bradley Roney (1-0) took home the win after three scoreless frames in relief.

The RailRIders’ only run came in the fourth. Trailing 1-0, Jake Cave stroked his 10th double with SWB down the left-field line. Pete Kozma reached when the throw from Ozzie Albies at second bounced into the first base dugout. Cave scored on the error.

The G-Braves reclaimed the lead on a two-run single by Anthony Recker in the top of the fifth. They added three more runs off reliever Diego Moreno in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run single that Blake Lalli chopped over a drawn-in infield. Ronnier Mustelier capped the Braves’ night with a run-producing single in the ninth.

Ben Gamel finished the night 2-for-4 with a walk and his 11th double. Nick Swisher also tallied a two-hit performance. The RailRiders were 0-for-9 with men in scoring position and stranded 10 on base.

The RailRiders continue their series against Gwinnett on Saturday, June 18, at 7:05 p.m. Right-hander Luis Severino (2-0, 3.24) faces right-hander Chris Ellis (0-0, 0.00), who was promoted from Double-A Mississippi on Friday. The first 2,500 fans through the gates receive a Luis Severino bobblehead, courtesy McCarthy Tires.
