MOOSIC, Pa. – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders scored twice in the ninth, but the comeback fell short in a 3-2 loss to the Buffalo Bisons on Sunday afternoon at PNC Field. The RailRiders (43-34) dropped three straight to finish the homestand 2-4. The Bisons improved to 37-39.
Felix Doubront (1-3) notched his first win with Buffalo this season by blanking the RailRiders for seven innings. The southpaw yielded four hits, four walks and struck out five. Kyle Davies (5-6) shouldered his third straight defeat despite a quality start. The right-hander allowed three runs on six hits. Gregory Infante worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to record his third save.
The Bisons scored the decisive in the third with two away. Matt Hague scored a pair on a single to right and came around on a double by Daric Barton.
Entering the ninth, the RailRiders had not scored in 18 innings. That all changed with two singles by Ramon Flores and Rob Refsnyder. Infante relieved Blake McFarland and promptly surrendered a single to Kyle Roller. Austin Romine extended his hitting streak to 14 games with a single that scored Flores. Ali Castillo beat out a double play try on a groundball to second, scoring Refsnyder, with two out. Infante battled back to fan Nick Noonan to end the rally.
The boys of SWB hit the road for a five-game trip this week. The RailRiders open a three-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) on Monday night at 7:05 p.m.
Left-hander Jose De Paula (2-0, 1.53) will start against right-hander Aaron Nola (2-0, 2.13), the Phillies’ top pitching prospect.
