RailRiders Stymied by Lehigh Valley

Mark Payton Collects Three Hits in Setback

Moosic, Pa. – The SWB RailRiders (Triple-A/ New York Yankees) dropped a 6-0 decision to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday night at PNC Field. The loss dips SWB to 1-4 on the year while the IronPigs even their record at 3-3.

Chad Green (0-1) made his season debut for the RailRiders and fanned eight over five innings. The right-hander surrendered four runs, three earned, on seven hits, however. Zach Eflin (1-0) worked around five hits in his five frames of work to keep SWB off the board. He walked three and struck out four.

Lehigh Valley manufactured a run in the first winning when Roman Quinn reached on fielding error by shortstop Ruben Tejada. Quinn later stole second and came around on a single by Dylan Cozens.

The IrongPigs were able to score thrice in the third. The damage came on a run-producing double by Jorge Alfaro that was followed by a RBI-single from Cozens. Nick Williams drove in Cozens on a two-out double for a 4-0 lead.

A Quinn double to left and throwing error in the sixth inning allowed Jesmuel Valentin to score and a single by J.P. Crawford provided the final tally of the evening.

Mark Payton finished the night 3-for-4 with a double and fellow outfielders Dustin Fowler and Clint Frazier each collected a single. The RailRiders had opportunities to push across runs, but finished 0-for-7 with men in scoring position.

The RailRiders continue their opening homestand on Wednesday, April 12, against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (Philadelphia Phillies) at 6:35 p.m. Right-hander Brady Lail will make his season debut against right-hander Jake Thompson (0-1, 34.71).
