Reading Rocks Thunder, Playoffs Open Wednesday

TRENTON, NJ – The Trenton Thunder allowed a season-high 18 hits to the Reading Fightin Phils Saturday night in a 10-5 loss.

With the loss, the Thunder finish in second place in the East Division standings and will host Game 1 and 2 of the EDCS at the home for Thunder baseball, ARM & HAMMER Park. Those games are set for a 7 p.m. first pitch Wednesday and Thursday September 7 and 8 against Reading.

Reading outfielder Dylan Cozens erased an early 1-0 lead for the Thunder when he drilled his 39th home run of the season off Daniel Camarena in the top of the third inning. The line drive darted over the wall in right-center field and crowned Cozens as having not only the most homers in a single season, but with RBs 121, 122 and 123, he set the RBI-mark for the Fightins as well.

The home run by Cozens was immediately followed by a solo homer by Jake Fox for a 4-1 lead. The Thunder responded with a run in the bottom of the third inning but never drew closer after Reading stretched it to a 7-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning.

Sunday features LHP Caleb Smith (2-5, 4.31) for Trenton against Reading’s RHP John Richy (4-3, 5.03) for the scheduled 7 p.m. first pitch. The ballgame features postgame fireworks presented by PITCH on FOX, and will be set to Bruce Springsteen music presented by 94.5 PST.

Following the game, PITCH on FOX will premiere on the videoboard prior to the fireworks blasting off. Pregame coverage begins at 6:40 p.m. on 91.3 FM and online at www.trentonthunder.com.
