Moosic, Pa. – The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) are excited to announce that the International League named second baseman Rob Refsnyder the league’s Batter of the Week for May 11-17. Refsnyder hit .400 for the week. He led the IL with six extra-base hits and and 22 total bases.
Refsnyder snapped a 52-game homerless drought with a blast to left-center in the first inning of Sunday’s game in Durham. It didn’t take long for him to tally his second round-tripper, launching a drive off the left-field foul pole in the fifth stanza. Refsnyder finished the day 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI.
The 24-year-old enters Monday with a 19-game on-base streak, the longest active in the IL and owns an eight-game hitting streak. His 11 doubles are tied for second in the league and his batting average has risen above .300 for the first time this year.
In his fourth season of professional baseball, Refsnyder was selected by the Yankees in the fifth round of the 2012 draft after earning Most Outstanding Player honors for leading the University of Arizona to the College World Series title. He is a native of Seoul, South Korea.
The RailRiders return home on Monday, May 18 and look to extend their four-game winning streak at the beginning of a seven-game homestand with the first of three against the Charlotte Knights (Chicago White Sox). Wednesday is a 10:35 a.m. first pitch against the Knights at PNC Field as the RailRiders host School Day – BATtle Bullying, presented by Commonwealth Connections Academy.
