RiverDogs Edge GreenJackets, 2-1, to Take First Road Series

AUGUSTA, GA- Domingo Acevedo logged seven strong innings and Andrew Schwaab slammed the door for his third save of the season as RiverDogs pitching shined in a 2-1 win over the GreenJackets on Sunday afternoon at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The victory gave the RiverDogs (9-2) their third series win in a row to open the season as they maintain their hold in first place in the Southern Division standings in the South Atlantic League.

Before Acevedo (1-0) even took the mound, the RiverDogs gave their pitcher a 1-0 lead on an RBI sac fly by Trey Amburgey that scored Jeff Hendrix who led off the first inning with a walk.

The GreenJackets tied up the ballgame with a run in the fourth on an RBI double by Dillon Dobson, who crushed his eighth extra base hit of the year to make it 1-1.

Charleston second baseman Thairo Estrada put Acevedo back in line for the win in the sixth with a single to right field that scored the shortstop Hoy Jun Park to put the RiverDogs back on top, 2-1.

Needing a lengthy start after the bullpen was taxed from the previous night’s 14 inning affair, Acevedo provided that and then some as he fanned six batters while allowing just a walk in a season high seven inning start. The Dominican righty scattered four hits in his third start of the year.

Schwaab came in to work the final two innings and pick up his third save of the year in four chances. The righty out of St. Charles, MO allowed just one base runner on a single to Zack Bowers in the eighth while striking out three in his fifth outing of the season.

The RiverDogs start a three-game series with the Columbia Fireflies tomorrow at 7:05pm on Monday night at the brand new Spirit Communications Park. The RiverDogs will send RHP Anyelo Gomez (0-0, 5.40) to the hill while the Fireflies will counter with RHP Joe Shaw (1-0, 3.00). Fans can tune in on WTMA 1250 AM in the tri-county area as well as online at riverdogs.com. Ticket information for any of the RiverDogs remaining home games this season may be secured by contacting the box office at (843)577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com.
