RiverDogs Explode For 8 Runs in Victory over Drive

The Charleston RiverDogs beat up on the Greenville Drive as they won 8-0 on Wednesday night at The Joe.

The RiverDogs got the fun started in the bottom of the third inning when left fielder Claudio Custodio lead off with a single and stole second base. Miguel Andujar followed with a two out triple to give the RiverDogs the lead. Yeicok Calderon doubled Custodio in and Brandon Thomas followed with the second triple of the inning to give the Dogs a 3-0 lead.

Gabe Encinas got the start for Charleston and pitched the best game to date going four innings allowing one hit and one walk while striking out six in just 59 pitches.

In the bottom of the fifth inning the RiverDogs got back to back doubles to start the inning from Tyler Wade and Michael O’Neill. An Andujar single made the RiverDogs lead 5-0.

Charleston would cruise into the bottom of the sixth inning and put up three more runs lead by Claudio Custodio’s first home run of the season, a two run shot to left field that capped the scoring for the evening with a 8-0 Dogs lead.

The Dogs bullpen was flawless lead by Chad Taylor’s two innings of hitless relief that got him his fourth win of the season. Chaz Hebert threw an inning of relief following Encinas’ departure allowing a hit, a walk and a strikeout. Eric Ruth threw two scoreless innings allowing only one hit and one walk to finish the game.

The RiverDogs return home for their final game at The Joe this season. The game will start Thursday evening with Luis Niebla on the mound in the rubber match of the series with the Drive.
