SALISBURY, Md. — The Charleston RiverDogs’ season-high road losing streak came to an end at five games with a 4-3 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds Saturday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Bo Thompson led off the fourth inning with his second home run of the season, and week, a solo blast to left. The long ball gave Charleston (13-22 second half, 47-58 overall) an early 1-0 advantage.
The RiverDogs added insurance to their lead with three runs in the top of the seventh. Stefan Crichton entered the game in relief of Delmarva’s (20-15, 53-50) starter Dariel Delgado (4-3).
With runners on the corners and one out, Isaias Tejeda scored on a throwing error by catcher Yermin Mercedes on a pickoff attempt. Vince Conde followed with a two-out, two-run double later in the inning bringing home Griff Gordon and Rainiero Coa and upping the lead to 4-0.
The Shorebirds tallied all three of their runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth. Cameron Kneeland led off with a double, advanced to third on a balk, and scored on a base hit by Elier Leyva. T.J. Olesczuk and Ademar Rifaela hit back-to-back two-out RBI singles to cut the RiverDogs lead to 4-3, but Guillermo Salas struck out to end the inning.
Rony Bautista pitched the first four innings and only allowed one hit, despite walking five batters. Sean Carley (1-1) took over and pitched three scoreless innings of relief en route to his first win as a RiverDog. Angel Rincon retired the Shorebirds in order in the ninth to earn his third save of the season.
