Catcher Gary Sanchez and left-handed pitcher Chaz Hebert will represent the New York Yankees this year in the Arizona Fall League’s Fall Stars game. The Fall Stars game is the leagues mid-season all-star game. Fans might remember it last as the game where Greg Bird hit a monster homerun.
Sanchez, 22, has been tearing up the Arizona Fall League with a .396 batting average over 48 at bats across 11 games. He was hitless in only 1 game so far this season. The young catcher leads the entire league with 6 homeruns and 15 RBIs. He has also hit 3 doubles and a triple thus far during the season. He was recently named the AFL’s Hitter of the Week for his monster performance.
Hebert, 23, has been working as a piggy back reliever for fellow Yankees prospect Ian Clarkin. Over 3 games in the AFL this year he has allowed just 1 earned run through 7 innings of work. Striking out 7 batters for an even 1 strike out per inning. Chaz is one of several prospects the Yankees will have to protect from the Rule-5 draft if they want to keep him.
