Buffalo, N.Y. – The dominance continues. Consensus No. 1 Yankees prospect Luis Severino (1-0) logged his first Triple-A win and his Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (Triple-A/New York Yankees) pounded the Buffalo Bisons (Toronto Blue Jays) on Wednesday afternoon, 7-2. The win gave SWB its first three-game sweep at Coca-Cola Field since 2012. The RailRiders went 6-1 on their three-city road trip and have won 13 of their last 14 road games.
All nine RailRiders came to the plate in a three-run opening inning with Tyler Austin delivering the big blow, a two-run single off starter Felix Doubront (0-2). Doubront needed 41 pitches to grind through that first frame, but managed to toss four in total. A wild pitch and a run-scoring single by Nick Noonan made it 5-0 in the third.
During that time, Severino rolled. He did not allow a baserunner until he took Matt Hague’s comeback single off his leg with two outs in the fourth. After a visit from athletic trainer Darren London and the coaching staff, Severino stayed in the game a struck out Brad Glenn. He faced the minimum in the fifth and left with a shutout lead, but the bases loaded in the sixth. Reliever Danny Burawa inherited the one-out jam and allowed a two-run single to Hague.
Cole Figueroa’s second run-scoring double of the day made it 6-2 in the seventh while Taylor Dugas walked with the bases loaded in the eighth to account for the 7-2 final.
SWB returns home to host the Rochester Red Wings (Minnesota Twins) from June 11-14. The four-game set includes two fireworks nights and a Derek Jeter bobblehead giveaway on Saturday, June 13 courtesy of Allied Services.
