Yankees Manager Joe Girardi told reporters on Sunday afternoon that he expects injured right-hander Luis Severino to throw a bullpen session on Thursday followed by a rehabilitation start next Sunday.
Severino was placed on the 15-day disabled list following a disastrous start against the Chicago White Sox on May 13 in which he was forced into an early exit with an apparent right triceps strain.
The 22-year old Severino had struggled mightily prior to landing on the DL. In seven starts this season, he has gone 0-6 with a 7.46 ERA. Severino had allowed 49 hits and surrendered 8 homers and struck-out just 27 in 35 innings of work.
Wherever Severino makes his rehab start, it will likely be on the road. All of the Yankees minor league affiliates are visiting opponents next Sunday; Scranton is visiting Norfolk, Trenton is on the road at Binghamton, Tampa is away at Brevard County and Charleston is at Augusta.
