Catcher Luis Torrens with the Staten Island Yankees in 2014 (Robert M. Pimpsner)

Shoulder Injury Puts Torrens Out for Season

On Friday, the New York Post’s George King reported that Yankees prospect Luis Torrens was undergoing tests to determine the extent of an injury to his right shoulder.

The results came Tuesday, and the situation is not good, The 18-year-old prospect has a torn labrum which will require surgery and rehabilitation.

Torrens is considered by many to be one of the Yankees top prospects and certainly one of the top catching prospects in the system. In two seasons in the minors he threw out 41 percent of runners attempting to steal.

This is not the first time he has had a shoulder injury. Torrens missed two months this past season after suffering a shoulder injury on April 15th with the Charleston RiverDogs.
